Hello. Perhaps you've been here before. Perhaps you haven't. If you haven't, here's what you need to know: these threads have a long history of being dumpster fires. For that reason, we take a much stricter approach to moderation than we otherwise do.


What is okay:

Yeah you’re right with AFL23 actually but I think that might be the only one (at least in recent memory) that has had footage that early on

I feel like even if AFL26 was genuinely a huge improvement, we still wouldn’t be getting anything until we hit that 2 week mark because of the poor marketing

Agreed. The 2 week mark is tomorrow also. Lets see if anything changes this time around but I doubt it unfortunately. Gather Round/Easter weekend was the perfect time to showcase the game and draw some interest but we all know this mob never learn.

To be honest I prefer nothing at all if the alternative is a ****ing coin toss animation they got strangely defensive about when the collective response was "who gives a shit about a non-gameplay animation we'll all skip anyway"

I wanted to skip that slow motion cutscene so bad every time, should have had an option to toggle it off.

I think it's Ross the Boss's decision there, he was in Adelaide during Gather Round, too, so that's even more suss he did nothing to promote the game during Gather Round, and obvious they're aware it's shovelware they don't want people to know about before release. Even 23 had a demo before the 2022 grand final.

I actually don’t think they’re ‘hiding’ gameplay. I think it’s more to do with poor marketing. From memory, they don’t tend to show anything up until about 2 weeks from release. I could be slightly off but yeah I think that’s just more poor marketing at this point as they do it with all of their games.
Also realistically, in the absolute worst case scenario, the game is a copy and paste of AFL23 so if they’re hiding that then we’ll all see it 2 weeks from release anyways.
I normally Pre Order every AFL title but I’m waiting to see gameplay or at least a trailer of sorts that actually shows improvement

I remember AFL Live when they had a play session at EB Games southland and you actually got to play the game before it was released. They have started to limit the amount you see the game before release (Not only AFL but Cricket and Rugby titles) as when they launch they're terrible and require weekly patches. Rugby 25 is still requiring weekly patches that have been delayed a few weeks still.

Yep so it was a decent build up and unfortunately they didn’t capitalise with the state of the game being a disaster on release

Here’s hoping it’s the opposite way around this time

One bloke even justified the lack of promotion with "they'll just cop it from people saying it's just 23".

Yeah mate, they probably will if it happens to be a re-branded afl 23. If it wasn't, there would be no reason to not release trailers.

I can't imagine someone with Ross's personality not wanting to shout it from the rooftops that they've made a decent game, just to rub our collective faces in it.

The only way anyone can conceivably believe its a ‘lose-lose’ scenario is if you actually believe Big Ant have any idea how to promote their work. Letting Youtubers and forums like theirs/ours give it free marketing but if it does in fact turn out to be a copy and paste job, they’re done.

Again, if there’s nothing to hide, maybe show something and get people interested in your game the logical way feature lists and hearsay wont cut it this time around.

Thanks for the warm welcome mate. Just wanted to clear it up that I’m being as impartial as possible in everything I say. Whenever I’ve called someone out I’m just trying to help them not get their hopes up!
I can’t wait to be scammed, same way I put all my hours into 23 I’ll do it all over again

Completely fair, I’ve never had a problem with opinions I hope it hasn’t come across like that, I’ve always just looked at it from the reality of it all.

I think I’m just a bit optimistic that even if it is average I can get thoughts across for patches and they get to a good point for 26 a lot quicker than the 2 years it took for 23.

It’d be very un-Australian for BA to **** up a may8 release

Haven’t Pre Ordered yet as I’m waiting for something showing off the game, which I’m sure is the case for a lot of people. Either way, have booked in leave for the 8th so will be playing AFL26 or Rainbow Six Siege all day lmao
