Multiplat AFL 23: Launch Thread (Xbox release date TBC)

STATE OF PLAY:

• The game is out for Steam and PlayStation. There have been issues with Xbox release and it is unclear when the game will be available.
• Big Ant are aware that there are playability issues & bugs at present.
• Content has been temporarily removed from the game to identify where the issues lie.
• This content will be re-introduced via patches in the coming days.
• Big Ant have released a summary of what is to be reintroduced, which can be seen below.

Have a feeling bigant have purposely done this to address some of the stability issues. Otherwise would seem like a pretty straightforward fix.

BigAntStudios Is there any chance you could implement the “Save & Quit” feature to online custom matches same as Cricket 22? I get footy is a shorter game than cricket but with the crashes etc at the moment I think it’d be a worthy feature

Also the ability to choose venues in custom match setup

Dobs how are ya! Also a GF mode function for this would be elite in the future for tournaments

Actually I'm going to say the most important urgent thing that needs fixing is changing player L1 doesn't work. If you press triangle it does tackle but most the time you can't actual get a player there to do it because L1 doesn't switch to the player for a chase down.

The game is not too bad. I can deal the other stuff but being unable to switch players in a match is a game ruiner for mine. I can't defend if I can't switch quickly to other players. Its the most frustrating thing. Unplayable right now without L1 player switching working.

Anything past first season of Management Mode is now unplayable on PS5.

Whenever you play a game, and it goes to one of your baldie regen draftees in the middle of the park, it crashes the game.

Such a shame, I was building such a decent Suns list.

For this I go with Manual Player Select, and just push one specific player back behind the play.

But I agree... sometimes L1 won't change player (maybe if they're mid way through an animation).... And the radial change player (L1+R Stick) that is mentioned in the Guide doesn't appear to work yet.

What's the deal with every single spoil going to the opposition. It's really frustrating when every release when getting tackled always goes to the opposition but the opposition always gets it off to their teammate. Also goal kicking is ridiculous, they don't miss when they kick it off inside 50.

After another game or two I’ve decided that I’m done with the game even with patches, it’s just not a fun experience and becomes predictable and same same all the time. The interchange and lack of any tactics is a draining experience.

I am convinced stats and attributes will never mean anything like if you create a player you can choose what style like an interceptor, accumulator, live wire etc I just don’t see anything in the core mechanics of game play that suggests that any of that makes a difference.

Bring on Cricket 24.

I got lucky. I went to trade for Buddy, offered him a contract, and then lol, he went to my team anyway on free agency!

Some definite potential! Will submit some of my issues through the Bigant site. Are the super feint gauges in near the middle of the screen a glitch or are they meant to be there? Looks odd. Need a few more games to wrap my head around everything

I think it's too inconsistent, it's bi-polar like Melbourne's weather!!!

How can one game be free flowing and fun (as likely intended by the developer), then the next game there's just have issue after issue after issue ?

The spike in difficulty is irritating, I can understand it if it was natural as discussed Fifa, NBA 2K have their own tough difficulties... AFL '23 is borderline unfair BECAUSE the glitches and bugs enhance the issue (stuck in mud, the way that the animations get faster for a few seconds conveniently when the is about to or already has control of the ball). It makes no sense how the hardest difficulty is pretty easy, but a lower difficulty (like medium) the actual toughness of the AI increases. How can you go from marking the ball cleanly in one match, then the next match you nail no marks but the AI marks or spoils everything regardless of your prime position and timing ?

Have you changed your settings from assisted player selection? If not, do that. I'm not really having significant issues with player switching not working.

Literally my biggest gripe. The gameplay is massively improved but I can't enjoy it winning every game by 15 goals. Sometimes I find myself purposely dropping marks or spoiling instead of marking to try and keep the scoreline realistic.

Have you changed your settings from assisted player selection? If not, do that. I'm not really having significant issues with player switching not working.

Take shots at goal with X instead of O.

I have found that the game has gotten a lot easier on most difficulties recently, I'm yet to try the hardest one yet will give it a crack after all the footy is finished tonight if I'm not too drunk and can see straight
