Easy to look at the stats and go "Essendon should have won with those inside 50s" or whatever Scott said but the reality is nearly all of them were either bombing it in or shots from the boundary. There was a bit of bad kicking for goal but that doesn't explain it all.

Maybe, but the game played out like all our games this year. Domination of field territory, not taking chances, not conceding much from center bounces. We haven't been lit up by any stars this year really.

Essendon are getting the best they can out of a bog-ordinary list.

Their inability to finish, bombing the ball into F50 is just terrible football.

Dominating territory is only as good as your ability to maximise scoring from it.

Essendon suck at it.

Yeah I certainly didn't watch that game and think Essendon were the better side and should've won. A lot of that inside 50 dominance came in the latter part of the 2nd qtr. And they were pretty much long bombs to Carlton who had pushed heavy numbers back.

While it can be a dangerous game teams are happy to do this as it is easy to defend and burns clock. You can't go full out attack for 30 minutes.

When I say kicking ourselves out of it, I also mean inside 50 kicks.
Which contributed to those 5 rushed behinds too.
