It's funny how a well run stable "mostly" uncontroversial club like Hawthorn these days likes it coaches extravagant, fearless, slightly touched, while Essendon an abberant eccentrically managed club these days likes its coaches straight laced predictable and frankly, dull.

I'm for the madmen coach, just wandered down from the mountain, unkempt, thoughts dislocated from mainstream, unaffected by unimaginative volk.

Hawks by 5 goals. An important battle in the eternal quest of how to live.

I was confident going into this fixture last season. As a result the only outcome I want today is a decent 4 quarter effort.

We have named a better side than 12 months ago though, so maybe I should be a bit more excited.

Day for it!

Crowd looks terrible, wonder if Scott telling Essendon fans to be patient has taken some hype from bomber fans. He said not looking for a sugar hit after trading in Dursma, Gresham, Goldstein.

I realise my club has very little success in it's history but seeing dinosaurs of the Essendon Football Club driving around the MCG in 200k mercedes with premiership cups from over 20 years ago is cringe AF.

I don't mind the nostalgia at all. The 80s were dynamite and very very serious amongst these 2 star studded teams at the time. I remember running into a talkative animated Rodney Eade at a certain south yarra pub one evening and his animosity toward Essendon invested regular and spiteful curses into his language. So much so that I, no bashful youth, begged pardon and wished best as I moved over to a quiet corner.

Young Martin bears some resemblance to Dennis the Menace.
