Oppo Camp Adam Treloar (Traded to Bulldogs 2020)

This is not the Collingwood way. We’ve let this boy down and it’s a disgrace. I’m ashamed at our club.

Please let’s stop the over dramatisation.
There’s variables that govern the decisions we need to make.
Sometimes they won’t be popular but are necessary.

- said he’s a mid only not versatile;
- doesn’t really hurt the opposition;
- recent poor injury history;
- disposal slightly suspect;
- our midfield not really working with him there; and
- we’ve got Sidebottom who can move in there who has statistically better centre clearance numbers.
I don’t agree with any of this tbh except his injury prone, I guess Sidebottom one is a statistic but Treloar offers more as a mid overall.

Treloar’s perfectly capable of forward he’s just never given the opportunity to. Can play wing as well we just never play him there either.

Treloar is one of the few players who takes the game on and hurts the opposition when he gets the ball in space. He gets a allot rushed possessions in congestion’s that overshadow this.

Disposal is suspect because he’s in the thick of it all the time.

Our midfield isn’t gonna automatically start working if we get rid him. It’s Greenwood/Wills/Sier that need to be upgraded to get our midfield functioning.

Sidebottom’s better in the centre clearances because there’s but Treloar has more strength making him better around the ground and is overall a better contested ball winner.

Gee I'm glad I'm not some poor administration staffer having to monitor the membership email account at the moment.

I mean I get it, be angry when the trade period is over and it becomes fact that we've treated Adam like sh*t. But until then it's a bit premature.
Yeah but very entertaining reading

It's a 2 way street and the goal posts changing has presented some challenges for both parties. Collingwood is well within their rights to consider whats best for the club. Hopefully the silence is a sign that behind the scenes all involved are doing their best to broker the correct resolution for Adam & the Pies. Adam is on a 5 year contract earning more than most people can ever dream of and people on here are carrying on like we are dumping him in the desert with no water.

Well he has plenty of water, a hat, sunscreen, Sat Nav and even a Hummer to drive himself home where he can stop off at the shop and buy some drinks and snacks to consume by his pool. I wish him all the best if he stays and I wish him all the best if he goes. Unlike a lot of members I personally see this as an opportunity to improve our list and fix our needs in the middle. Lets wait until the truth comes out before we start hanging people.

Everyone needs to get a grip and just calm the F?ck down.

It’s not about a marketing slogan. It’s about the values this club stands for, or more accurately, used to stand for.
This situation is an absolute disgrace and will cost us dearly.

Note that I was responding to a comment about needing to remove the side by side slogan.
I don’t disagree that it could be costly when we are inevitably rewarded inadequately at the trade table.

I respect your point of view too that this isn’t the Collingwood way, I don’t really like the inconsistency between what we thought these values were and what appears to be happening in this situation. Though from another point of view, I can see the merit in removing the need to be consistent with an intangible slogan when it comes to making the football decisions.

It doesn’t matter who reads it.
Not at all.
The fact that it is sent, received and read is enough.
And if CFC are run as a business, which Ed always says it is, then there should be a report written that tallies the number, and nature, of correspondence from the members.
But the most important thing is that the writer feels a sense of having their thoughts heard.

We the fans may not know all the finer details of what has occurred and why it is occurring but I feel we know enough of the basics to form a valid opinion.

1. Treloar's wish was to stay at Collingwood and see out his contract.
2. His contract and it's remuneration isn't a result of greed from Treloar.
3. His contract extension coupled with the reported back ending was done at the request of the club in a likely effort to help it manage the salary cap, re-sign/sign others and he obliged. He is not at fault for it's terms.
4. After it became official his partner would resume her professional netball career next year in Queensland he has assured the club he can cope being separated from his partner and baby.
5. The club is concerned he wont be able to perform at his best once separated from his partner and child next season owing to concerns surrounding anxiety that Treloar himself has admitted to. We might be concerned his partner will decide to extend her time in Queensland beyond one netball season and Treloar will request a trade this time next year.
6. The club in needing to take action on a bloated salary cap has come to a decision that Treloar's on field performance coupled with concerns about his mental health heading into next season is not worth his elevated remuneration in the seasons ahead. We now have buyers regret over the terms of his contract extension.
7. The club has come to the conclusion that Treloar is the A grade player we are prepared to sacrifice in order to get our salary cap back under control and we hope he can still deliver decent trade currency in the process.
8. The club has found or put itself in a situation where the optics are poor no matter the spin.

The one question still open to conjecture for myself is whether Treloar asked for special dispensation to travel to Queensland throughout next season.

So we’ve got a player, his manager and employer who’ve all agreed to keep this in house due to sensitivities.
We’ve also got the media jackals spreading untruths which BF in general is gobbling up and believing.
Just imagine, (purely hypothetical) Kim has said I need a break.
I‘ll take a contract for 3 or 4 mths, Mum will look after us and then I will be back.
The club, (concerned about Adam’s mental state) asks what they can do to help.
Tim Hazell mentions it to a colleague, Chinese whispers and we’re getting rid of him.
On the flip side, the media are spot on, we’re paying him too much, the Club and Bucks hate him and want him gone.
How about we let this play out and form an opinion at COB next Friday?
Whilst I do agree with you, I'm pretty confident that the club ha tried to manage the story off the record and have made a right royal shambles of it. That's what I'm critical of.

I will email the club my dissatisfaction with the manner in which they have handled this affair with Treloar and their inept financial management of the playing list. I don't see this as a 'necessary step towards chasing a flag'. Treloar seems an honourable guy and there is no doubt he gave his utmost for the club. He is a victim of player management incompetence and has been left to the mercy of speculation and rumour without the club having the decency to go public about its intentions.

Football might be about chasing premierships, but its also about the character and personalities of the players who fight for ultimate victory. At the same time, it's about competent list management that allows the club to better the quality of its playing personnel through prudent trades. Players are expendable, but quality contracted players like Treloar should be treated with respect. I don't approve of many aspects of this attempt to trade him. The club needs to clear out the people responsible for this mess.
Is his treatment any worse than that of Craig Starcevich’s? He was shipped off to Brisbane without a choice. He was a vital cog in our premiership side and a popular figure at the club.
With all due respect, you don’t know all the facts, and neither do l. Let’s put things in perspective here, it’s not as though Collingwood is withholding money, he’ll still be paid his enormous wage.
Yes, the club erred in signing him until 2025, but they’ve made the same mistake by signing Grundy to a long and costly contract as well. So by making a mistake, they are now trying to make changes for the betterment of the club. Seems like a pretty normal thing for a business to do, and let’s not lose sight of the fact that it is a business.
Treloar came to Collingwood because he thought we “had a better list than Richmond”. Is that the right reason to want to play for our club?
I don’t understand the emotional attachment adults can have to players in this day and age. There are always exceptions however e.g. Daicos Snr, Millane, Swan or Pendlebury. One club player legends.
Treloar is just another player who was looking to cash in on his ability, when he was in the enviable position of choosing a club, when he came to Collingwood.
If he goes, and it looks like he will, we as supporters will naturally have a soft spot for him, in a similar way to Heath Shaw’s departure. There was an unofficial moratorium on booing him, as there should be for Treloar.
The legendary Billy Picken was moved on by Collingwood, as sadder day in Collingwood’s history as I can remember. Treloar has given Collingwood good service, and it now appears that his services are no longer required.

My sons & my membership is going to be cancelled in the next day or so.

I know things happen and its footy and the club is more than a player.. blah blah... but FFS... The bloke chose to come to us a few years ago and has renegotiated his contract in good faith with the club (And to help other contracts of his teammates) only to be treated like this. Here's the concerns going ahead with where this club is heading.

- Players inside the club will no doubt feel uneasy about this causing friction within the playing group. Those that were super close to Treloar will be really feeling this as much as AT7 himself.

- Who the F would want to come to this club? Like what example does this set? The club can bullshit all they want about putting Adam's mental health first yet are now happy to trade him to another Melbourne club.... Like yeah because that fixes all 'his' issues.

- This Ned bloke, will he be held accountable for any of this sh*t management of the cap? The clubs response to this whole mess is totally pathetic in every aspect.

- The slogan "Side by Side" needs to be scrapped as this is false advertising.

All the best Adz I hope you have 35 and slot a couple against our rabble of a club when you play us first up.

Well we know that won't happen.

Boy, how's the carry on in this thread without any facts?

Keep believing Tommy Morris and Sammy Edmunds 'sources'.

Way more to play out on this, let's just see what happens over the coming days.

In other words, calm the **** down people.

You do realise that people's frustration are a build up of many things and no just Treloar?

Lot of people going off half cocked, could be right, could also be wrong.

It's only his last year that is backended, and we wouldn't be paying part of his salary for 5 years, probably just the last year. Now don't have a meltdown but I think treloar is just an accumulater, he can't kick on the run anymore, constantly gives out hospitol handpasses, gets pushed aside easily in a contest, doesn't kick goals and never gets tagged because the opposition know this, his time of tearing anyone a new one ended in 2018 when he did both his hamstrings

Hit the nail on the head right here.

No time for common sense mate.

Cruel and ruthless.

I understand all clubs need to be on some level. But surely there is also a value in culture, loyalty and respect.

No player is exempt from the tough calls of list management. But Collingwood have a history of bending over backwards for the mercenary types like T.Cloke, DeGoey, Beams and Grundy. Yet when it comes to a player who clearly loves the club and clearly out performs those first 3. The club has shown him no respect. It almost appears he has been bullied out.

If AT had not performed on field - I could understand
If he had not been a professional off field - maybe I can accept that too.
If they asked Adam if he was open to a trade, and he was - that's fine.
But Adam's biggest fault was accepting a contact extension (to help the list management) on the terms the incompetent list managers offered him, and now they've realised the kitty is bare from the many previous mistakes of overpaying. ( and they want to overpay DeGoey again no doubt)

If we want to see a dynasty one day, we need a list that shows loyalty to the cause and accepts the need to play for slightly unders for the greater good of the club. How can the football dept possibly ask that of Adam's teammates after the way they have conducted themselves throughout this shambles.

Ruthless no doubt, but at what cost long term?
absolutely. Add Moore to the mercenary list, one good year after 4 injury ravelled years and now on top dollar.

Sidebottom will be tagged out of the important games and be a non contributor. What Jay Clark says about Treloar may be true, but it doesn't negate the fact that he has been poorly treated or that we are now very unlikely to get a fair return on our investment or replace him with someone better.
I would have moved on Sidebottom before Treloar. Not just for the reason that hes so easy to tag but his leadership he showed this year (or lack of it).

The other factor is the poor compensation we will receive now that our position is clear. Top draft picks paid for Treloar. Won’t be balanced when he departs.

Also, what impact will this on the playing group?

maybe the club should pull all our players in and state with facts the salary cap pressure that we are supposedly under. If loyal players need to be squeezed out why cant the whole list take a 5 to 10% cut so this doesnt happen?. Most have been overpaid for years anyway.

People aren't disappointed with the Club wanting to Trade Treloar. People are disappointed with the way he has been treated. For the last 3 years, he has taken a pay cut to accommodate for other players, now that it is his time to get back pay, the club is trying to push him out of the club. What impact does this have on future contract negotiations? Players will not trust the list management when asked to take a hit and we will repay you next contract. Players from other clubs will look at this and say F**k that, im not going there.
