Crossley especially.

Labrador put trust in the side that has taken them to the QAFL minor premiership
LABRADOR selectors have resisted the urge to tinker with the line-up that has taken the Tigers to within one game of a QAFL grand final berth.

....

This means Brayden Crossley and Harry Simington will both line up for the Tigers in the reserve grade semi-final this morning.
Crossley kept in the reserves for Labrador today as the Tigers are unwilling to tinker with their seniors team. Hopefully the Tigers win today and Crossley gets to play in the QAFL Grand Final in two weeks. Labrador are going for back-to-back QAFL flags so they don't want to mess it up obviously.

Palm Beach-Currumbin bring in two teenagers for QAFL semi-final against Vultures

Cool to see the academy boys going back and playing for their local QAFL team. I know Scheer is also a PBC player but he's obviously gone beyond the QAFL level and is preparing for the national draft.

You can already see Andrew Raines is excited about Jacob Dawson for next season. I think they are expecting big things from him in 2017. PBC is becoming a bit of a factory for the Suns these days and I'd guess that has a lot to do with their association with the high school and the sports excellence program they run. Even Andrew Raines came from PBC!

Wonder why Palmy did'nt select Scheer ?
Can confirm quite a few Suns boys going to Salk to watch this game as they a few mates playing in the game.

It'd make sense for someone like Jesse Joyce to head down and support his junior team. He went to school with these guys, played junior football with them and went through the academy system with them. You'd have to think Andrew Raines would be there too given his role as academy coach.

I suppose you could probably say the same thing about the Labrador game today at Cooke-Murphy Oval. Wouldn't be surprising to see a few Suns boys there today.

Ruckman Jonathan Croad stars but Palm Beach-Currumbin lose QAFL qualifying final to Mt Gravatt

AN outstanding performance from Palm Beach-Currumbin ruckman Jonathan Croad went in vain when the Lions lost a cracking QAFL qualifying final on Saturday.

Croad, 24 and in his first season on the Gold Coast, was superb when the Lions fell to the Western Magpies by 13.10 (88) to 12.12 (84) at Salk Oval.

It was certainly no fault of Croad that PBC are now in sudden-death mode and playing the first semi-final, also at Salk Oval, next weekend.

“He was brilliant,” coach Chad Owens said of the big man who rucked almost without a break on the bench on his way to 28 possessions and a domination of the taps.

Croad’s special gift is his ability both in the air and on the ground. He played like he was a ruck-rover.

“It was probably one of my better games,” Croad said.

“I was OK at the start of the season, then I injured my groin midway through the season and I’m just getting a bit of touch back.”

PBC gained Croad’s services courtesy of his friendship with Gold Coast Suns star Tom Lynch.

What about Lynchy recruiting for the local teams now! This bloke is certainly doing all he can to improve Gold Coast football!

Dawson is the one for me. After watching a few games where he has played this year, he will no doubt go first round next year unless he really tails off. That kid looked a standard above the rest of the NEAFL seniors with his pressure and disposal efficiency. So rarely you find an inside mid that can drill bullet passes along the wing or out of defence. He regularly polled 5+ tackles a game and occasionally went 10+. The hype for me is real!

It bothers me that Crossley can play (and influence) a game at senior NEAFL level, yet his senior QAFL club leaves him playing reserves? I mean come on. That makes zero sense, even if you want to 'keep team balance'. Dumb call.

Scheer and Bowes won't take any part in QAFL games I imagine. They'd have been told to rest up and get ready for the national combine in a few weeks.

PBC ended up smashing the Magpies by 79 points to set up an all-Gold Coast QAFL Grand Final next week with Labrador. Anyone know how Dawson went?

Dawson OK but not as good as last week -seemed to play more forward this week but didnt appear to have the versatility to adjust to that.
Spencer very good as third tall back. Lots of good spoils smothers and 1X1 wins . Not a lot of pocessions but very efficient .

No I'm not talking about Dicko the Pricko or Harbs. Our boy Jack is a little over a month away from officially becoming a Gold Coast Sun. So I thought we could start a thread where we discuss all things Jack and celebrate this monumental moment in our history. I'm pretty pumped and so is Jack!

Anyone know anything about Changkuoth Jiath? Apparently a Sudanese kid in our academy who has cracked the level 2 AFL academy squad and is playing in the GF curtain raiser.

Edit: Got my wires crossed his name is Kwaby Boakye

Hit the gym kid.
Squats and legs presses
And lots of steak and chicken

Get big trunks like Fyfe so you can bullock your way out of the packs
No leg presses.
Squats Dealifts and Wide Grip Pullups.
Spelt pasta and olive oil and Wild Caught Salmon. Sorry got carried away.
Anyway watch the body mass explosion this pre season. The boys will be smashing the new Climate controlled gym like you wouldn't believe. Half of them would only do the bare minimum in the old shed it used to get to 40°+. Really poor set up for althetes to put on body mass continually sweating out half you're weight.
