I am happy with Western United. They've got backing from the council and are building an identity gradually. Once they move into their venue in 2026/7 they will be all set.

Don't see MacArthur on the same path.

Wished they would change their name though to Western Melbourne or something else more meaningful.

Western United has to be the most generic name ever in the history of Australian sport.

Wyndham or Tarneit United even. Just anything else but {direction}{meaningless nickname} (but mainly the direction part).

Should be fun if we can land this, 2015 was an amazing experience.

UAE want to host - again. Oil money will decide this.

Since Aus 2015 there will have been 2019, 2023(4) & 2027 in Middle East. And 2011 was in Qatar.

Why not make it 4 on the trot in ME....

I wonder whether Football Australia has secured the commitment of the various State Governments to contribute to the cost of hosting the tournament. There won't be any Asian Women's Cup games in Victoria (only NSW, Queensland and WA), because the Victorian State Government refused to put up any money.

4 ****ing dull tournaments with horrible atmosphere.
Add in World Cup Qatar 2022 and Saudi Arabia 2034.

It’s good because once 2034, the region won’t get one for 30+ years. Gah

That'll come after securing hosting rights.

Vic government definitely won't miss out on men's Asian cup tournament.

Victoria should lose their right to be sporting city of Australia. They’re a joke these days so

Who still believes the 15,000 seat western united stadium will be built ?

IMO they’ll play at iron bark fields… with at best a second grandstand constructed

Tarneit west train station will be built next year… the housing development will continue no matter what

the question is whether Western United are still an A league club by then or an NPL team ?

The club is losing money at A league level

Its an interesting situation. They've been building the stadium forever, but have made progress with other elements in the precinct.

It would be a sad outcome if they left it at ironbark but can they justify a 15k stadium?

The A League business model has evolved quickly into a developing ground for talent and transfer fees. Can't remember any notable exits the last season or 2, but they're building up a good squad with some players that can fetch a good return.

It won't be, I was reading an article yesterday indicating that they're out of money and their financier is either dodgy or broke. They can't afford to build the for-profit housing and shopping developments, let alone the money pit stadium.

It's a grossly under reported story that Western are more likely to fold than they are to ever play in a 15k Tarneit stadium.

Was it this article?

Cause both WMG Holdings and WMG Football Club look like they are cooked financially

Let me guess another “south” fan.

Shorter cap, only one marquee.

The more things change in Australian football, hey?

They've announced this without consulting the PFA - who already has an EBA in place next season contrary to what has been announced.

And while there's no EBA in place for the following season when they introduce the $3m hard cap, it's meaningless in EBA negotiations, it's bad faith negotiation to announce beforehand that this is what you're going to do.
