Footy Classified barely acknowledged the record breaking win by Crippa. Mud Guts McGuire referred to Daicos as the coaches champion and Cripps as the umpires champion. Dirty scumbag of a show.
It's interesting the narrative that's come out recently with this. The idea that coaches are completely and entirely unbiased and their award is of the highest integrity there is is absolute tripe.

Coaches always have bias, how often do you see a coach give his guy 5 votes and get 0 from the other? As detailed in other comments, you often see a discrepancy in votes. McRae was unashamedly giving Daicos 5 votes when he was lucky to deserve a single vote, and even said they set their game up to get him 3 votes.

There's issues with all the awards and maybe the umpires voting, stats unseen, is far from ideal, but the idea that the coaches are voting with 100% integrity and their votes are the truest reflection of the real best player is also far from the truth. Ideally the players award would be up there, but the voting system there prevents that. So, there's issues with all 3 systems.

The fact here was a different winner for each award shows that there wasn't an out and out obvious winner. Cripps won most of the "other" awards, like the media ones etc. so from the broader community he was viewed as the MVP. Fwiw, he was also favourite for the Brownlow in just about every betting agency so it's not like he came from nowhere to rob Daicos - he was literally the favourite.

Tldr; Salty Pies fans (Captain red face in particular) can shove it, Cripps won fairly and deservedly.

Thing is, his closest competitor was also set up by his mates to try get extra votes when their season was over and had even less competition within his team (DeGoey, 8 votes next best for Wobblers).

It was all set up for a Naicos win this season. But Patrick romped it in, largely thanks to his sheer consistency (Naicos didn't start too well).

Whatever we all think of the total vote counts compared to yesteryear yada yada, Crippa was a very deserving winner.

Yep I saw a few Pies supporters saying Cripps only won because he had less competition to take his votes. Truth is Daicos actually had less competition with De Goey their next best on 8 votes and also with the umpires confusing brothers.

Cripps is a beast and we are so lucky to have him. What I’m really liking apart from his consistency is the way he’s improved his game to have more impact on the outside as well as how much his leadership has grown.

Cripps is going to win our B&F by a country mile, most likely from Weitering who in turn will be second by a country mile…

Meanwhile at Hawthorn:

“The Hawks will hold the 2024 Peter Crimmins Medal on Saturday night, where Moore, Newcombe, Amon, Scrimshaw, Macdonald and D'Ambrosio will fight out the best and fairest along with Jarman Impey, James Worpel and James Sicily in what looms as one of the most intriguing best and fairest counts of the year, given how many leading contenders there are.”
