The inverse of us and playing spin, hence why they're a chance to skittle us there. Particularly the 2nd test given both are at the same venue. Wouldn't be shocked if they did a Pakistan and re-used the same pitch to double down on the ragging.
I doubt they’ll do a Pakistan which makes me question why just the second Test - I would suggest to you that both pitches and Tests will take turn from ball one

The first pitch last time turned more and SL lost easily. The 2nd pitch was flatter and they smashed us

channel 7 had that SA test series, channel 10 had the 95 Windies tour, but it was all channel 9 before that
In the 1990s in terms of overseas non-Ashes Oz Tests on FTA:

- ABC showed the one-off Test Australa played in NZ in 1990.

- Ch 9 had live coverage of the 1991 West Indies tour.

- Ch 9 also had live coverage of the 93/94 South Africa Test series (although not all as it conflicted with other prime time shows).

- Ch 10 showed the 1995 West Indies tour

- Ch 7 had the 96/97 South Africa tour (again not all of it as it conflicted with prinetime programming)

- While they didn't have live coverage, Ch 9 showed highlights of the 1996 one-off India Test, 97/98 India Test series and the 98/99 Pakistan Test series.

Reckon it would be good for cricket if they showed a few more games on Ftv. It wasn’t untill I was an adult that i had paytv and cricket basically was non existent till the summer rolled around. Jan/feb tours they usually do to SA and NZ would actually be prime away tours.

was it 30 min/1 hr highlights, or just showing clips on the news counts as highlights these days?

my vague memory was that Optus (Sports Australia) showed that 1996 one-off India Test?

my other pay tv memories:
  • 1995 Windies tour shown on Galaxy (remember them?)
  • earliest Foxtel cricket memory is them showing a tri-series from India (India, Australia, and I think Sri Lanka?), which they just put on as replacement programming because netball (?) got cancelled
  • edit: apparently a quad series with Zimbabwe. https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/singer-world-series-1996-60987
  • 1996/97 South Africa tour shown live on Fox8 (back when Foxtel only had maybe 2 Fox sports channels. and no commercials, so Simpsons episodes aired during the lunch break)

Massive L for Murdochtel, what are they doing
Guessing they reckoned on there being no other bidders and were holding on as late as possible, in order to drive the price down (a lowball value is more the SLC than no sale at all).
Seven then jumped in unexpectedly, actually having the game available to near 100% of 27m people rather than just an estimated 4.8m household with Foxtel/FoxtelGo/Kayo group subscriptions has to be a win. Even if few will probably end up watching it "out of season".

My earliest memory of coverage of overseas Tests was the 1972 Ashes series.

The ABC broadcast it all live on radio. On TV, they had half an hours' worth of highlights the following day at 6pm.

Then, for the final day of the 5th test, they had live coverage. It was a big deal, as it was the first live TV Test coverage into Australia from overseas. I remember watching it.
