What you don't seem to understand is the stock that US citizens place on their constitution. The right to bear arms is a key constitutional right. It was born out of the right of a populace to stand against their leaders if required. The school shootings are without a doubt a tragedy, but I am not convinced that disarming the populace is the key in a free society.

I think a lot of the unsolvable problems the USA now faces are due to their historic fetishization of this document.

No they're not, yes mining companies are 'encouraged' to employ on the basis of DEI, that does not equate to just hiring any schmo on the basis of DEI, coz society says so. It's not mandatory (if that is what you're implying)

Any appointed employee does have to have merit for their role.

I know because I work on a mine site, I see it first hand. I've met 'DEI' appointments at my work place and they all have the relevant qualifications and experience for their roles. It's not solely based on mandatory quotas.
