Can we get Baldwin in the MSD now that Edwards is an LTI? I guess they'll look at all options.

Really shit news for Edwards, kinda carried on the curse from Hunter last season. Wish him a speedy recovery.

Pretty sure he’s dead
Just read a comment from Hunter’s mum funnily enough through a FB page. She had commented on the news about Edwards. Said that her boy was playing his first game back from injury this weekend, lining up for Claremont. News of his death was premature it would seem.

Also said that Essendon would look after Edwards which suggests they were happy with how EFC showed duty of care to Jaiden.

Not sure if this a joke, I read it a few times and still unsure (I’m probably an idiot). For the record, hunter is alive and it was a joke around how many injuries he had. I’m so confused lol

I don’t think they should tbh.

It’s not the nice thing to say, or the thing anyone wants to say. Maybe the day he’s literally done his acl isn’t the right time to say it either.

But he’s already 23? 25? 24? Can’t remember exactly.
He’s now going to miss a whole season, and the season after an acl guys can often be pretty slow/a step off/take a while to get back.
And factoring in that’s he’s showed some good glimpses early, but definitely looks like a guy who needs 1-2 decent AFL preseasons into him at least to develop the fitness and body.

I’d say he might be one of those “wait to see how trade week plays out, and see how many list spots we have” types.

Very tough luck for the guy. Feel for him.
He is 24 he still has time i understand your points you are bringing across however

Very sad and just a crap scenario overall you can see this guy worked his ass off to get here and continued to do so once he got here

Yeah, I realise it was a joke. Just thought it interesting that there was an update on his situation coming directly from his mum yesterday. Not that confusing really.

BOMBERS TO SUPPORT MATURE-AGE RECRUIT

TOM Edwards will miss the rest of 2025 after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament at training on Tuesday, but Essendon will look at rewarding the mature-age recruit after a bright start to his AFL career.

The Bombers hadn’t discussed an extension beyond this season with Edwards’ manager before the devastating injury ahead of the bye.

But after being an emergency in round one before breaking into Brad Scott’s side in round two, where he kicked three goals on debut against Adelaide, Essendon has been impressed by his progress after trialling with the club during the pre-season supplemental selection period.

Edwards earned a rookie contract during a two-week trial at the Hangar in late January/early February, where he starred in an intraclub before kicking four goals in a half against the Western Bulldogs in a match simulation.

The Bombers will sit down to discuss a likely deal for 2026 once the 24-year-old undergoes the knee reconstruction and the dust settles.

Just looking at him physically I wonder if his body was ready for AFL level. Not suggesting the ramp up caused the injury but maybe he was a little fatigued.

Looked like he needed another preseason to me.

Players come back better than ever from ACLs, hope he has a good outcome and hits the weights in rehab.
Lost agility and reduced power launching at the ball tend to be big hurdles to overcome. I feel like his forward play relies a lot on these facets and getting confidence back will be critical.

I'm not convinced we should be automatically re-signing him. Yes he's unlucky but still

1000% this. We should be doing everything we can to support his recovery and keeping his career options open for both footy and other pursuits next year but prudent list management would be to sit back for a while and wait.
