Year 1 to 3 Dusty also had that off season tag Stack has. Often he started preseason in not the best shape he could have been. In his 4th year he wised up let's hope stack does the same.
I don't remember that at all - he had a smaller tank, but always trained well.
Memory is a funny thing, never trust it.
Martin cops the Hardwick blast
DUSTIN Martin learned plenty in his first season of AFL - and after his first off-season.www.perthnow.com.au
But thats not the point we are talking about , Sure 4 months to get fit and ready is fine but the club expects more commitment and work ethicAt least he is there in the group. The last two years have shown that he is not one for self isolating and training by himself. He has been back in training a week or two, day one, something he has not done before.
4-5 months is enough to get fit as long as he doesn't slacken off to much over the xmas break, I'm sure the club will be on his case. He is not like most young footballers who live and breathe it, but he has the talent that 99% don't. Plenty of great footballers have been like that over the years.
Some people are happy enough to get it done tomorrow (which never comes)....
Reports are that RCD is working hard, give the kid a break and support him for a change. You might actually like it. Not much fun bagging a young player all the time.Don’t compare him to RCD, Stack has talent.
You’re forgetting who selects the All Australian side.. we had 1 player make it when we won the 2020 flagThis kid can honestly be anything the club wants. Fwd, Mid or back.
Last year he didn’t exactly have the best preparation and only coming into the team at round 17 and then played every game. 25 touches and 22 touches in round 20 & 21 shows that he was starting to find some form fairly quickly.
With a bit of confidence and a solid consistent position in the 22 he’ll blossom this year.
His 4th season and I can see him taking a big step forward. If he does then what a massive inclusion to our best 22 he’ll be.
Got all the tricks in the book, lovely kick, and doesn’t mind it physical. I know the club wants him to succeed. I think all Richmond supporters are very much in his corner and getting it right over this pre season is crucial.
A big call but, depending on the position the club goes with him I believe if he finds his best level of footy and Richmond are around the top 4 he can be an all Australian half back. Huge call but that’s the potential I see in this kid. Fingers crossed.
RCD has a tank now… Kane lambert says watch this spaceHe is younger than rcd who still has no tank
Don't think the statement was that bad
Shame so much talent will be wasted this guy just doesn't get it. Prior problems where no one wanted him are still around. From Pre : Caeser (thanks)
So all you guys that get on my case when I make comments on Syd's running and immediately jump to his defense have just got a dose of Burge's first hand reality so you can stop shooting the messenger.
In individual needs session again today Syd was trailing MJR by so far it wasn't funny, I were not going to put it any training report, as I have mentioned it previously, I were just going to let Syd work on it a few weeks to see where that got him but as Burge commented on it directly it again becomes relevant.
**A funny aside today, Syd was already being paced by one of the other fitness guys and Peter Burge, ( unbeknownst to Stacky ), was prowling the center watching when Burge cried out FFS Stacky! as Syd bent down pretending to do up his shoelaces :ROFLMAO:, someone should tell Syd that trick never works.
I haven't read above article but it sounds like Stack has not put in the running work during the break
He is not the first and he won't be the last. Also although he is behind where he should be we don't know by how much. A lot of jumping at shadows. He was seen jogging laps with Prestia and nobody said gee he's been in a good paddock, just not where he should be.But thats not the point we are talking about , Sure 4 months to get fit and ready is fine but the club expects more commitment and work ethic
Coming into preseason under prepared and always starting behind the others is not good enough to get the best out of himself
The club is not interested in players without the work ethic to become the best they can be
Christmas is less than 4 weeks away.....He is not the first and he won't be the last. Also although he is behind where he should be we don't know by how much. A lot of jumping at shadows. Of course the club is disappointed, they would love a more professional attitude, but it's not such a big deal. Chastised and move on. By Xmas he will have a solid 6 weeks of intensive training under his belt. Each year he will get better.
Just a rung below Chiefs famous 3/0/75 statement.Memory is a funny thing, never trust it.

Yep.If they allow one to get away with it year in year out it soon spreads and you end up like Carlton.Season over before its started(Again)But thats not the point we are talking about , Sure 4 months to get fit and ready is fine but the club expects more commitment and work ethic

Been on the track for 2 weeks already and was running with Prestia before that. So will get 5 or 6 weeks of solid training in.Christmas is less than 4 weeks away.....
Remember when he got disciplined by the club for missing training cos he over slept due to taking sleeping tablets? Dan Connors got the flick, Dusty only survived because of his potential. Early days Dusty was a bit of a loose unit he turned it around and he knows when and how hard to party these days. Maybe the ideal person to give Stacky some advice.I don't remember that at all - he had a smaller tank, but always trained well.
He'll only be an asset if he reaches a level of dedication to his footy that allows him to get fit enough and he stays out of trouble. Of course, we want him to succeed. However, the penny doesn't seem to have dropped which is devastatingly unfortunate. We got Stack for nothing and he has huge upside.
He is well worth perservering with for years to come.
He will be a vital asset in finals football.
I still believe he will be the best player from his draft year. He did come second or 3rd in the rising star with fewer games than the others. He'll only be an asset if he reaches a level of dedication to his footy that allows him to get fit enough and he stays out of trouble. I can't see him being a better player than Walsh who is a gun and who is just so professional in his preparation that its' not funny. Stack is so far away from that level at the moment that he may as well be in another universe. As I have said, I hope Stack succeeds, but he needs to really up the ante by 1000% if he really wants to reach Walsh standards.I still believe he will be the best player from his draft year. You can tell from his highlights package that he is a gun, he is more skilled than Walsh .I can't see him being a better player than Walsh who is a gun and who is just so professional in his preparation that its' not funny.
