Player Watch #34: Jackson Archer - suspended for 3 matches for "hit" on WBD player Cleary- charge upheld, Jacko suspended

Simple fact of the matter is that Cleary suffered a head injury, the one thing the AFL wants to stamp out of the game and not see kids emulate. Jacko is a victim of what I see as a wider campaign to avoid kids going and playing "less dangerous" sports. Can't have Cayydehn and Mahkaiylah-Tiphanei's parents seeing a ~21 year old having his head caved in on a Saturday night and deciding that the precious darlings are going to play basketball instead of footy. Even if it is an incredibly hypocritical stance and contrary to the reason the slide rule was introduced in the first place.
Solely because of his own poor technique. It is quite evident that JA even turns side on just prior to impact. JA has sound technique, the footscray fella does not.
The AFL must point out that the kid has a sore bonce because he chose to dive forward onto the ball. The onus is on him to improve his technique.

F@ck off Bevo you turd. "Plays like his dad but also had no intent to hurt people" ... owtte .... your bloke has sh!t technique and nearly put an end to JA's year.

Should've sent JA off for scans today and have him cleared of bone, knee and ankle damage and offer the results up to the wig wearers as a reason the footscray bloke shouldn't be suspended.

I know what you’re saying FG but I genuinely believe the AFL pick and choose when they want to be ‘concerned’ about head injuries.

Only in North Melbourne lore would a player wearing our colours break another footballers leg sliding in, and subsequently be the reason for the creation of a rule protecting the player who is being slid into

Only for many years to have the player being slid into be given a three match suspension because the slider went head first rather than feet first ... And the player being slid into is wearing NM colours

Absolutely exceptional

This why I posted not surprised last night

It could happen to us…think back at all the BS things that has happened to us over the last few years

AFL expectation- Players must go hard at a contest and never pull out or you’ll be labelled as soft.

Also AFL expectation, if you go hard at a contest and someone gets hurt you will be suspended.

It doesn’t pass the pub test.
Also AFL expectation, if you go to ground and take out somebody's legs you will be reported for rough conduct.

Also AFL expectation, if are a North Melbourne player you are a great opportunity to use as a scapegoat so that the AFL appears to be serious about duty of care.

So they want to stamp arch action out so parents are happy for the their kids to play the sport but are promoting a gun diving grad first at on coming traffic.
This action from cleary needs to go into Footballing for Dummies book, under sub heading. How to not pick up the ball. Kids, do not do what cleary did, kids, this will earn you seeing stars and potentially life threatening injuries.

I think the AFL would, gun to their heads, rather a player be viewed as "soft" rather than ~400k people (kids and parents) see Luke Cleary's temple turned into mush on live television.

The "soft" thing is more for the punters. It's a violent game that is becoming less violent because the AFL doesn't want it to be viewed as such

Watching back the replay, he was excellent.

Does all the 1%ers and can hit bullet kicks (Larkey you idiot). He was also intercepting and saving our arses when a loose footy got within a dangerous position for the Dogs. Frustratingly, the source was from a errant kick by his team-mates.

I hope he gets off. Doesn't deserve to be suspended.

Only because they care more about revenue and participation more than they care about the sport.
