Solely because of his own poor technique. It is quite evident that JA even turns side on just prior to impact. JA has sound technique, the footscray fella does not.Simple fact of the matter is that Cleary suffered a head injury, the one thing the AFL wants to stamp out of the game and not see kids emulate. Jacko is a victim of what I see as a wider campaign to avoid kids going and playing "less dangerous" sports. Can't have Cayydehn and Mahkaiylah-Tiphanei's parents seeing a ~21 year old having his head caved in on a Saturday night and deciding that the precious darlings are going to play basketball instead of footy. Even if it is an incredibly hypocritical stance and contrary to the reason the slide rule was introduced in the first place.
I’m so confused by all this. Is it the same man?Where's the malice Bevo.
I know what you’re saying FG but I genuinely believe the AFL pick and choose when they want to be ‘concerned’ about head injuries.Simple fact of the matter is that Cleary suffered a head injury, the one thing the AFL wants to stamp out of the game and not see kids emulate. Only in North Melbourne lore would a player wearing our colours break another footballers leg sliding in, and subsequently be the reason for the creation of a rule protecting the player who is being slid into
Only for many years to have the player being slid into be given a three match suspension because the slider went head first rather than feet first ... And the player being slid into is wearing NM colours
Absolutely exceptional
Also AFL expectation, if you go to ground and take out somebody's legs you will be reported for rough conduct.AFL expectation- Players must go hard at a contest and never pull out or you’ll be labelled as soft.
Also AFL expectation, if you go hard at a contest and someone gets hurt you will be suspended.
It doesn’t pass the pub test.
A certain Collingwood player likes this.I know what you’re saying FG but I genuinely believe the AFL pick and choose when they want to be ‘concerned’ about head injuries.
This action from cleary needs to go into Footballing for Dummies book, under sub heading. How to not pick up the ball. Kids, do not do what cleary did, kids, this will earn you seeing stars and potentially life threatening injuries. So they want to stamp arch action out so parents are happy for the their kids to play the sport but are promoting a gun diving grad first at on coming traffic.

I think the AFL would, gun to their heads, rather a player be viewed as "soft" rather than ~400k people (kids and parents) see Luke Cleary's temple turned into mush on live television.
The "soft" thing is more for the punters. It's a violent game that is becoming less violent because the AFL doesn't want it to be viewed as such
