From what I heard it was a weird landing that caused it. Could happen to anyone.

He will be back strong and i can't wait to see it

This could end up being a blessing in disguise for Armstrong. I appreciate that would be a hard sell for the young kid but, he now has a chance to strengthen his core in a professional environment and fast track his development for next season when his body will be better suited to matchup against hardened defenders. He's already had four games to build into, and now has a taste which will keep him motivated to return even better than he left.

In terms of our squads development, it also frees up a spot for our other young key position forwards to gather some crucial exposure at AFL level. Armstrong is not Gibcus. One does not automatically follow the same recovery pathway as the other, especially with a new Fitness Coach who is an expert in these type of injuries, supporting his from the start.

So, while its sad, and far from ideal, I don't see this as all doom and gloom.

I've never heard of anyone, let alone an 18 yo, doing a high grade hammy from a weird landing.
Does that even makes sense? Weird landings lead to torsions and structural injuries, are your hamstrings even engaged?

Frustrating and concerning.

Oh well, it is what it is.

It’s the same manner that Gibcus did his a few seasons ago. I remember it also happened to Liam Ryan a few years ago to, and Treloar as well (at Collingwood) who did both hammies but tore the tendon in one which led to the overload in the other.

It happens, but it’s rare.

I think (and I am going to stress that I’m no doctor), most awkward landings the knee takes the brunt of the impact. I’d say it’s why ACL and PCL injuries are more common than a hamstring tendon tear. These instances the tendon would take most of the impact are pretty freakish occurances.

Lol. Absolutely weird landings can cause hammy injuries. Are you dense?

I myself did one at 17 from a bad landing.

You clearly have never played sport before.

Not actually necessarily true.

If you land with a straight leg, depending on the angle you land the hamstring can take most of the brunt. Literally exactly what happened to me.
