Not a great look just like not giving the starc catch. However, you want to play to the letter of the law then you cannot have it only applied to one dismissal.

Lord's must have opened early for lunch.

The ball just needs to be considered dead. Whether first ball of over or last. It clearly wasn’t. Carey released it as soon as he took it. Fat boy was asleep

20.1.2 The ball shall be considered to be dead when it is clear to the bowler’s end umpire that the fielding side and both batters at the wicket have ceased to regard it as in play.

20.3 Call of Over or Time

Neither the call of Over (see Law 17.4), nor the call of Time (see Law 12.2) is to be made until the ball is dead, either under 20.1 or under 20.4

For those playing at home

Why didn't the square leg umpire give Bairstow out straight away? Surely he knows the rules? Bairstow was clearly out of his crease when the wicket was broken.

He threw it back instantly. It is exactly the same as a stumping. You don't leave your crease. He should have been looking at the keeper. Not once was the ball dead.

When Carey threw the ball he was still in his crease, he walked out of it with the ball in motion.

Just like he did half the over prior.

Arrogant.

Silly from Bairstow but unsportsmanlike to appeal for that.

Same old Aussies always cheating.
If it was the other way around you'd be laughing your arse off.

Genuine brain fade by Bairstow.

Is it no different than a keeper waiting a split second for the batsman to lift his foot befire whipping the bails off? For me, not really. It's a clever opportunistic move

yeah basically a fast bowler stumping

England benefits from a technicality yesterday then what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Perfectly happy for us to call Bairstow back if they agree to deduct the extra runs Duckett scored from their total.

And we know what a stickler for the rules those English are
