Message from someone at training.

If you expected a response today wasn't it. Standard stuff with focus on tackling and defence
Short sharp. Coaches very calm. Players were all quite jovial
No different to any other training session. Drills and some match sim
Docherty is all midfield drills
Silvagni in defence
Boyd looked to be with senior group but hard to tell. Moving well
Couldn't see Carroll or Fantasia
Curnow looks ready to play
Cerra trained with the backs apparently

While I don't want to squeeze mids into HF, Cerra at HB isn't a howler

Would certainly use the ball better than Ollie and understands defensive space better

But, still prefer him on ball
I'd actually like to see Ollie behind the ball in this game surprisingly. Send him to Moore and don't let him go anywhere across the field without Ollie hot on his tail.

Might be one of the few roles in the backline Ollie actually would come in handy. Moore has exceptional endurance and work rate but he's not a beast in the contest which would be more concerning for a match up for Ollie.

Cerra down back I don't love, but we've only really seen him play there at AFL level when he's been coming back from injury and looked a mile off. I recall seeing him play off half back in a pre season game once when he was fully fit and he dominated both on ball and off half back that day. Ball use and ability to win the ball back was fantastic.

I'll reserve judgement for now but I'd much rather him play on ball to help stop the Hawks spreading too much off of Cripps and Hewett.

Yep,
If we are sending midfielders down back we are better off sending Hewett back into defense onto Moore or a Ginnivan type where he has played plenty of times previously with the Swans !

I'd prefer Cerra on ball as well

I really don't get Ollie at HB, as it's clear they want him to be that rebounder/run and carry/distributor, but his ball use isn't at the level of players, playing that role at other clubs

Perhaps the easiest fix I'd bringing Boyd back and Ollie goes back to wing rotations

I dont get the desperation to play Doch as a midfielder. If we need more experience behind the ball put him there where he has been all australian, not cerra who is a bonfire midfielder who struggles everytime we play him at half back.

Onball is the most demanding role in the game. Most bonfire mids move into other roles late in their career for that reason yet with Doch we are doing the opposite. And his body has been battered worst then most at his age.

Poor kick but he runs all day and provides overlap run. Outside of a fit Walsh, we have very few players that provide overlap with consistency.

Boyd struggles to find the footy, whether by instruction or otherwise. He's primarily been a lockdown defender at AFL level.

I don’t thing it’s much different from the pies using Josh Dacios off half back
