No rumours or news of re-signings or new additions to the VFL squad at all? Only thing I recall was someone mentioning Ben Edwards (and maybe Matty Lloyd too?) being at training a couple of weeks back. Might have even been earlier in this thread.
30 days out from the first VFL preseason game, and we still have no official signings or re-signings to the VFL squad

We did something, finally

Looks like 20 games 18 goals and 7 "Best Player" in 2024 for Angus Hanrahan playing for Mooroopna Football Netball Club.

Draft profile said half back/winger.

Anyone know anything more than my 2 minutes of research?

I do, for what it's worth (which isn't much)

He was a decent player as a junior and was in the frame to be drafted (even then it was only as a speculative, late-pick type) until about half-way through his draft year when he had a few injuries. Both he & Rowbottom (I'm pretty sure they're very close mates) were injured in the same match right on the eve of the Combine, so they couldn't participate. Hanrahan was expected to perform very well at the Combine as he was always more of an athlete than a "pure footballer".

If there was a current Swan he reminded me of literally six or seven years ago when I last watched him closely, it would be Indhi Kirk meets Caleb Mitchell. Make of that what you will.

He's a smart and disciplined kid who has his own company (The Gluten Free Athlete)

I am still waiting for confirmation that Harrison Podmore-Taylor has signed with our VFL side for this year or if my reputation will be in tatters!

So we have one semi-confirmed new signing, awaiting a caesar confirmation of another new signing, and 2 unconfirmed re-signings (Edwards and Lloyd) - that's it!

And 7 players from last year's list have moved on to other clubs.

Melbourne-based teams have over 30 players signed up to their VFL teams alone. Surely VFL pre-season starts around now? Again, I've seen posts from other clubs of standalone VFL training sessions.

I am just assuming that our VFL team is being sorted privately but not confirmed publicly yet.

Perhaps, but I feel the club underestimates our VFL interest when it comes to team details etc.

I believe Harrison Podmore-Taylor is finishing his final year at Eton before joining the squad.

Surely the AFL-aligned VFL clubs don't have lists of 30 players in addition to their AFL squad? I can believe the stand-alone clubs do, but the VFL salary cap for the AFL clubs is tiny, and very few of those 30(?) players are going to get regular games with the VFL side.

Only what I've read on other boards; Collingwood have around 30, Geelong had a train-on squad pre-Xmas of 46, to be cut down to around 30, North have a squad of around 20 or so, Casey have signed up 13 new players alone

Agree, not all of them will play regularly, but at least they have theirs announced, training is already happening with their teams.

Posted something similar in last year's reserves thread. Just wanted a record of what a reserves team might approximately look like at the start of this coming season, and how different it will look come the end of the season.

For argument's sake, if you took last season's seniors grand final team with Campbell as sub as he was, Mills in for Parker. Would be left with the following:

For a reserves game team of 22 played the day after seniors where Campbell can back up after only playing minimal minutes ...

Rotation of back 7:

Paton, Edwards, Snell
Bice, Francis, Leidler, Andrew

Rotation of middle 8 with ruck, inside mids and wings:

Ladhams, Adams, Sheldrick, Campbell
Mitchell, Cleary, Co. Warner, Kirk

Rotation of forward 7 including back up ruck (Green):

Bowman, Buller, Dattoli
Wicks, Hamling, Hanily, Green

Never works out as such due to injuries and other factors but looks a more balanced reserves team this season (not overly tall/big/slow).

Fairly versatile with a number of players who can play two or more of the following three positions ... inside mid, wing, non-tall forward. Less versatility in regards to filling the back seven non tall positions though. Or at least not many players in the mids and forwards who have played back on any kind of regular basis.

Curious who of these players might be a permanent fixture in the seniors as we progress through the season. My top guesses are Cleary and Sheldrick. EDIT: ... and possibly Snell.

Journo Lachlan McKirdy mentioned on Twitter that Nic Shipley was in and around the group for the two match sims in this last week or so. Has been part of the VFL squad at least the past two seasons I think I'm right in saying? Reasonable to assume he's a fair chance be back in it.
