That explains the tiny number of Auskick kids at half-time.
Yeah, one of my local clubs got asked and they had to do a call around the other local clubs to try and get more kids who didn't have older siblings playing in the afternoon. They ended up sending some of their U9s as well as the AusKickers.

And there is a certain no 1 pick in that forward line from a few years ago that might be in that boat as well.
Yes, I must say the way Cadman finished 2024 had me pretty excited for what he would produce this season. So far it hasn’t eventuated but it’s early days.

It’s a little frustrating, especially when you see what Sheezel is already doing in a weak team and imagining the quality he would bring to us.

Time will tell, but I don't think we should avoid vic metro kids at all costs. They get 12 weeks holiday a year, that's plenty. Melbourne to Sydney is nothing compared to Perth to East Coast, so easy for family to visit if needed.

Cadman got his chances....just didn't convert. Had 4 good shots inside 50 and fluffed his lines.
Handed one from Hogan.

He's still very young for a key forward but he's getting a hell of an education. He will grow in confidence again this year.

Riccardi was good...both forward and in the ruck.

Yeah I don't agree with the Cadman bashing going on here. If he'd kicked a little straighter from his set shots he could've easily finished on 4 goals and we'd all be singing his praises.

He's not that far off it, just needs to finish his work.
he also took a great contested "mark" that was touched off the boot.

I think he was ok, had some moments, should have converted better.

He is coming along nicely, but is far from the finished product. 3rd year key forwards are often only just getting some game time.

I dont think we avoid all of them, but there are players that we have avoided due to be considered as not wanting to come.

I haven't seen much 'bashing', just some commentary that he missed four pretty gettable shots and didn't have a great game. Of course we'd be singing his praises if he kicked those goals, but he didn't.

The more surprising one to me was Whitfield. He had a good game but I thought Ash was a lot more influential.
absolutely agree. Thought Whitfield would poll votes, but thought Ash was our best player (if someone went with Hogan as BOG I wouldnt argue though) and thought he'd be somewhere between 8 and 10 votes.
Ash was the catalyst for almost everything.
Ash is having a terrific year. He has gone from being a promising player to a topliner this year IMO. Very happy he is locked in for another 3 or 4 years.

Did anyone else notice HH playing on the wing at centre bounces in the last quarter?
Yes, and he looked pretty good. Playing HH on a wing in the old Cumming role and bringing Aleer into defence is one of the ideas I suggested in the off-season. Harry has struggled at times down back, but his elite kicking and strong marking would make him a great wingman in my mind.

ESPN’s review of the weekend game was critical of Stringer - hope he has a breakthrough game against the Saints

GWS

Stocks up: How can it be anyone other than Jesse Hogan? Last year's Coleman Medal winner booted NINE goals in a dominant performance against the Eagles. Hogan, who missed the opening three weeks of the season, now sits just one goal behind Nick Larkey and Riley Thilthorpe in this year's Coleman Medal race.

Stocks down: Considering the amount of ball being sent into the Giants' forward 50, you'd have expected greater output from prized recruit Jake Stringer. The former Bulldog and Bomber had just six kicks and didn't register a major or lay a tackle. Stringer is still yet to boot a goal for his new club after making the highly-publicised move in the offseason.

31 touches at 90%. Elite stuff.
and damaging.
We have in the last few years asked him to take a lot of the tough kicks and he is now balancing that much better, he looks to me like he is well on the way to becoming an A grader.

His speed is such an asset too. There are times when it looks like he’s about to get caught holding the ball and then he just bursts away from the tackler. He’s a hell of a player.
