One thing I find a bit odd with Walshy's added size is that I felt like he was stronger when he was a wee little beanstalk in his early years. Always remember marvelling that he just never got caught holding the ball despite being so skinny, would always manage to get his hands free for an outlet.

I can only assume thats to do with his back and lacking the awesome core strength he had early on but I watch with keen eyes to see what sort of Walsh we get this year.

Will be one of only 4 players who can win the B+F I reckon. He looks ON to me.

Skills will be off while their new power and explosive fitness regime kicks in. They’re all carrying more weight. There bodies would be a little different. They would also be carrying muscle soreness due to the strength training. Always harder to hit targets when your strength is either a little bit stronger or weaker currently.

If he is to play a more inside role it will be very interesting to see our core midfield line up is.

A full fit Cerra and Walsh imo remove the need for Hewett to play consistently as they're both strong defensively. Jagga and Lord are looking awesome thus far too so I imagine we're going to be trying to give them some opportunities in there whether they're ready to perform at a top standard or not initially.

So many questions going into this season. I can't wait to see what happens round 1.

The positional switch for JSOS feels like the one last magnet move before his locker gets cleaned out.

As a 3rd forward, his predominant position, he has always been well below average.

He's been tried as a backup ruck. Battled hard. Got slaughtered.

He's been tried as a tagger. Did a decent job against Fyfe once. Not his position.

He's had a few goes down back. Can't jump high enough to spoil tall forwards marking overhead. Can't run fast enough to keep up with leading forward.

I expect JSOS is dead last in the pecking order for our tall defenders, and it's going to take 3+ of McGovern, Haynes, Kemp, Young and Weitering to be injured before he gets a look.

I am big on Kemp, but I don't see him as a permanent 3rd forward. I hope the club uses him as a genuine swingman who plays both ends depending on matchups, injuries and momentum within games. Could easily do the +1 down back role like Curnow does late in quarters.

Step back , pause have a think for a sec - Walsh has been recoverng from a broken back. He has gone from elite running capcity back to only abo average with restricted mobilty below his knees.

That type of injury is not easilly fixed iand certainluy nto in quick time - he is doing well to be playing as well as he did. Adding strength will only help him but it has to be balanced against his ability to do what he does best and that is run. cerra is just as mcuh a fingers crossed situation - veery few players can get over repeat hamstring issues of the severity he has gone through. In both cases these blokes are going to have modify quite a bit of what comes naturall to them if they want to have a long and productive career.

Walsh is the most one-way midfielder in the comp.

I'm not even sure I saw him turn and face the backline once in 2024.
Odd... He averaged the 6th most tackles, 9th most pressure acts, 5th most defensive half pressure acts and 9th most one percenters in the league despite coming off no pre season and dying in the ass the back end of the season.

Personally not a fan of the move. Especially off an ACL, I just can't see him stacking up athletically with a direct opponent he's trying to stop.

His best trait has always been his smarts, but tbh you can be a total dumbass down back and get by on athleticism alone. I'm not sure it's possible to get by on smarts down back anymore as a KPD. The good KPF's are just too big and too strong.

Here I am thinking that Walsh is a defensive minded midfielder first and foremost. I sometimes lament that he expends so much energy getting back, that he has no power left when going forward. One of us needs to watch more closely. Which one though?

Jack Silvagni had 19 disposals, 10 hitouts and 4 goals in his last game.

I remember some massive assists down the back line from Walsh last year and right throughout his career. Amazing how perceptions differ.

I think there was a bit of a miscommunication about what time training at Maroochydore yesterday, the boys only did a little bit by the sounds. By the time my daughter and I arrived about 1.45pm boys were signing autographs. They were all really polite and engaging and was great to see. 😊 Does anyone know who was wearing # 38 yesterday? He was a fresh faced cheeky fella, he told me he just got drafted, I didn’t recognize him at all. Great turn out by all Qld supporters ! Just a bit annoyed we have no games this year up here, apparently on the club’s request.

Early start is a thing with these days. The little bit of training they did was little more than a stretch in their groups. Today suggested as 9am start, I will be there before 8 (southern posters remember Qld is on real time, not daylight savings time)

Couldn’t tell you who #38 was. (Just drafted is interesting, only way would be an on the quiet SSP)

Could have been #28 Charleston? Or they're just wearing other numbers at training which seems to happen a bit
