Did you read the whole article? Finished off with a movie quote that was just pure filth. When I emailed him and said I did not think it was appropriate, he got all uppity. Bloke is a tosser, and won't see another cent of mine.
Overall I gave up reading their coverage ages ago because they're after he ballers with everything as clear as a bell in hindsight. It's sort of the Women's Weekly of footy coverages , the same as the mainstream except with a lot more words.

If we’re not top of the ladder after round 2, it’s time to get the tank gifs out.

It worked last year, so I’ll allow it.

will be really interesting seeing if the likes of tunstill, robertson, bruce and mckenna can grasp opportunities this year. our depth will definitely get tested at some point and these guys will be extremely hungry to grab a senior spot and potentially play in a premiership. dont think there will be selection angst quite like it at any other club.

All the pressure is on the coaching staff - that's my big question.

4 ACL's, Oscar and young Ashcroft that is 6 players with legitimate claims for positions. Zorko in his last year, maybe 1 or 2 others. Starc not resigned yet. Then you have Joe's replacement with 2 or 3 being able to occupy that. So much pressure for positions internally.

Not letting players become disheartened, not letting players fall behind, how to keep the whole squad motivated when grand final players will be missing out. Winning the internal mental battles and keeping the pressure on is the big question. I do think Fagan is the right bloke to do this with his connection to every player but I don't underestimate the task. A healthy list for the larger part of the season and it the Lions to loose, the games are just internally, who is in and who is out and whom is still trying or whom is waiting on their manager to find regular games else where.

I would say it is the way Fletcher replied in the article.
His father had 6 so he asked McCluggage who said no way or something of that nature.
So, his thinking was if he can be half as good as his father, he would be happy, so number 3 was available.
He then apparently asked Joe if that was okay

Darn i was just getting used to Fletchers number ahh what was it again.

Can't see Levi being sub, they will play him as long as he is fit. He is the future and the sooner we get him to 50 games the better.

What is the difference between Will Ashcroft debut in 2023 and possibly Levi in 2025.

Will got a place in the side basically over Robertson, J Lyons whose time was up, Sharp and Tunstill.
Maybe you can include Ah Chee as he was injured and struggling a bit until round 10
From memory i don't think Will had any surgery in the preseason or injuries.

Levi will have to replace in no particular order, one of Fletcher, Ah Chee, Lohmann or Bailey from the GF side.
Other than debut players, McCarthy, Reville then Robertson will also be looking for a position.
Thats a lot harder task than Will had.
Injuries in the preseason can eliminate some of those players but we don't want that.
Levi is coming off shoulder surgery, maybe it was minor but still surgery, and he just turned 18 in December.

Robertson and Tunstill played in that Round 1 game in 2023.

Yes, that is correct. I was aware of that so did McCarthy who played all year.
But basically, they were the 3 players Will kept out of the side. Lyons was probably the main one of the three.
Lyons played 10 games that year, 8 as sub and 16 VFL games.
That was the year we knew his time had come. He only played the 3 AFL games in 2024.
Also, Zorko missed round 1 so that opened up a spot for Robertson/Tunstill

The likely player out, assuming no injuries, would be McKenna as the sub. We've seen in previous years where a player who becomes the sub, has a hard time breaking back into our best-23.
