Yeah, Toby picked up two fines from that game, as well as Ash, but not up for a suspension so that's OK at least.

TOBY Greene has been fined for two separate incidents during Greater Western Sydney's Opening Round match against Collingwood on Sunday.

Greene, who is no stranger to copping a fine, was fined $6250 for kneeing the Pies' Reef McInnes and a further $1000 for making careless contact with an umpire.

The kneeing charge is Greene's third of the kind, attracting an initial sanction of $10,000, reduced to $6250 with an early plea.

It's Greene's first careless umpire contact charge, after the forward was suspended for six matches after making intentional contact with an umpire in 2021.

The original careless umpire contact sanction was $1500, down to $1000 with an early plea.

The Giants' Lachie Ash was also fined $6250 for rough conduct against Scott Pendlebury, down to $3750 with an early plea. It's Ash's second such offence.

He comes across as a smarmy, wanna be guru, smart arse to me. And this exposed him badly imo. Snooze did a number on his best player and he was acting like a little smart arse fanboy. The way Kingers coolly put him back in his box was perfect.
He comes across as soft the way he back peddled when Kingers put him in his place

First thoughts coming home from the game.
Hogan would have kicked at least 6 with the delivery this afternoon.
Brown's hands let him down but his quickness and burst energy was more than they could handle.
I thought Greene played a very unselfish game and much of his gut running opened up opportunities.
Finn has arrived. Supreme performance and he and Kelly danced all around the Collingwood mids. Cogs looked short on match practice.
Defence and pressure was where it all started. The Pies struggled to create space and their reliance on pinpoint kicking was exposed. We caused a lot of turnovers by niggling and sticking tackles.
Umpiring was the fairest I've experienced in a home game against a big Vic club in many years. They didn't cave to the feral mob.

Great points. I would add that Cadman dropped as many sitters as Brown. Both could have easily had 3 each I reckon

Just more persecution of the Irish by the filthy mongrel Anglican hierarchy.

Very true Cadman has escaped scrutiny due to the result.
He got decent delivery and couldn't take any of them.
That's why I mentioned Hogan would have kicked at least 6.

Losing Keeffe forward in the 1st quarter made it more difficult to isolate Cadman. Sure he dropped some marks, but he was rarely outmarked, brought the ball to ground and applied decent pressure for his size.

Cadman had a legitimate one taken away, I think he and Brown do better next week. Sweaty hands due to humidity.

Don’t get me wrong I was still pretty happy with their output. First game of the year and everyone has a bit of rust. Gruz missed at least 1 mark as well.

Browns first goal was from Cads bringing the ball down in front. The fact that Brown/Gruz/Cads created so many marking opportunities is the important part. Marking and converting will come. Cads is in for a big year and i think Gruz could possible force Keefe and Ricca out of the side and play Backup ruck - he was very impressive

They’ll be up against it this week with May and Lever.

Sure will but it's still early days with Cadman. We can expect a mixed bag. God we were lucky with Jeremy Cameron's early career.

Gruz was solid. Keep him in. Who's takes that third tall role? It was Brown playing tall for the remainder of the Pies game.

Unless we pick Madden as a ruck we don't really have any other options.

The combo of Keeffe in the ruck and three tallish forwards Cadman, Gruzewski and Brown is okay. Max can chop out in the ruck when Lachie comes off.

Melbourne’s strength has always been intercept defenders like May and Lever, so going the aerial route probably isn’t the best strategy anyway.

That would mean a straight swap of Green for Briggs (assuming Tom gets up).

I liked the analysis on Bedford's tagging of Nick Daicos in this clip. While he didn't get a huge amount of possessions himself (14 to Nick's 21, and that was impacted by considerable time off due to cramps in the second half), 9 of those 14 were score involvements. He did his job well.

Fans would remember that we previously looked really good when Matt de Boer was tagging superbly (until injured).

I'm just glad daicos had cramps or he would have been running Darcy down and preventing that ripping goal /s

Another reasonable analysis of aspects of the game (including some video examples):

Kingsley won’t care one iota about Cadman’s stat line – five disposals and two behinds – when he’s doing things like this: flying into a pack from a rear position to spoil the taller, stronger Darcy Cameron, allowing a teammate in Callum Brown to pounce at ground level and snap through a corker.
_____________________

Back-up Lachie Keeffe does excellently to deny the purer ruck in Cameron a clear run and jump at the ball; he legally holds his space under the bounce, forces a neutral Cameron hitout, and from there, the Giants take control.
_____________________

You could tell how brutal this style was on the Pies’ by the casualty ward at the end.

Nick Daicos, the fittest 22-year old you’ll come across, was a non-factor in the second half, having worked so hard in th first to outrun his tagger in Bedford that the effects of cramp were obvious to see.

_____________________

One: the Giants swarmed the Pies wherever possible, particularly on the counterattack – a pressure factor of 214 in the third term was a primary reason why, for 20 inside 50s, the 2023 premiers failed to score a single goal.

Throughout the day, the Pies went at 67 per cent disposal efficiency. The Giants? 76.6 per cent. And the gap in pressure on the ball-carrier – and only one team having the speed to execute it at every turn – was palpable.

Nick Daicos, the Pies’ most dangerous ball-user, still had plenty of the footy to half time: but just 65 metres gained was remarkable. Reduced to chip kicks backwards or dinky handpasses, the creative machine that is the superstar at his best was almost completely reined in by an intelligent tagging job from Bedford, whose mission was to curb the impact of his touches rather than the volume.

And two: Sam Taylor. The standout player on the ground by the length of the straight.

Taylor is an extraordinary footballer: he seems wiry for a key back, and that definitely contributes to his exemplary speed off the mark and in getting to contests to provide a timely fist or intercept mark. But he’s strong as well: strong enough to regularly outmark and outpoint the outclassed Brody Mihocek, or Tim Membrey, or Dan McStay, or whoever he decided to be on at every given time.
