Well after today he is ready for the Bungles

He did a good job up till today. I think injuries just caught up with them Riley mills missing from that DL his the cog that holds that line together and best pass rusher plus fact of offence couldn’t move ball for large chunks of game they spent way too much time on field.

Is it just me or does there seem to be far more NFL DC's coming from college now than there used to be? Seemed like it was only offensive guys who used to get NFL jobs, now it feels like its gone the other way.

Part is because line coach from the NFL go down and become a OC/DC in college and the go back up.

Also more NFL guys going to colleges

Same as always good till even or outmatched and then scheme starts to fall apart.

ND as a whole were disappointing today.

He hasn't ever been anything special. Given his age it's a surprise

Feels like a disaster for Detroit.

Had a prime chance to win a SB the past two years, really should have been in it last year and won considering Baltimore also choked.

Both coordinators leaving, big hit.

Johnson goes to a division rival = intimate knowledge of the Lions offence and Goff's weak spots.

Johnson is the perfect candidate to get Williams going.

Bears probably sweep the Lions next year and I reckon they are a chance at winning the division if the Packers don't fulfill their potential (like they didn't this year).

All that being said I am unsure on Johnson's leadership, he may be great X&O's but can see him getting fired in 2-3 years a la Matt Nagy after one good year.

Same with Glenn in NY, another Bowles/Salah who is a good coach but not good enough to get them over the hump and to survive the internal politics

Wasn’t he in charge of worst d in nfl this season with bengals ?

He’d fit right in without other bad staff. Him, Ballard, steichen, isray got making of 4 stooges like comedy act.
He's a great DC, singlehandedly got the Bengals through the playoffs and to the SB a few years ago.

Has had one bad year with no talent on his squad

Lol. I mean hard to argue that it's not a good look having the dumbest player in the league to throw on a trick play, because we know he isn't smart enough to not throw.

I wanted him for the Raiders, but for no good reason, probably a form of PTSD more than anything, he does give me a little Josh McDaniels vibe, which I put down to nothing based in fact but more the scars of the past.

You're struggling if you're referencing Bomani Jones to find negatives mate.

I don't think he will be the saviour for the bears. OL and QB are not there. GM they kept.
But I don't think there is a coach that can save the bears without total organisational change

I would be more worried if they let him pick a GM or got got a new one.

That's the obvious concern, and Mike Florio reported that he had heard Johnson cared more about being a schemer as opposed to a leader who would drive a program.

That being said, that wouldn't have put me off hiring him if I was in a position to do so.

Carroll will still be a home run hire for the Raiders if it goes that way.

Johnson does sound like the sort of guy who is a brilliant OC but a poor HC. But maybe he'll surprise us all.

Joe Brady sounds like he'd be a good HC though, although he might need more experience.
The thing with Joe Brady is hes had two elite QBs to work with with Burrow and Allen. A lot of the Bills passing game comes from Allen running around when plays break down, its fair to question how he would go without an elite QB I think. No such issue with Johnson, hes elevated Goff.

Kyle Shanahan gives off the same energy as Ben Johnson imo, the somewhat arrogant quiet genius. Hes not a Josh McDaniels who is more of a loud insecure dictator douche. No one will care much about if he is a great motivator if hes as good of a play caller that we all think it is, the players will believe in him if the offense is good.

Lawrence has all the tools to be an elite QB, he's just been mismanaged so far.

I don't know why but Johnson gives me Adam Gase vibes , good OC but not a man manager and would need an extraordinarily strong and supportive GM by his side, otherwise he sinks in the deep end.

Nothing more than a gut feeling and not necessarily rational, just got that nagging doubt about him.

Feels bad comparing anyone to Gase unless they also rock up high 👀 to their introductory press conference.

Pretty sure the Chicago odds actually dropped AFTER Rapoport's initial report where he said the Raiders had firmed as a landing spot for Johnson.

I think you should look into Schefter's history in the media to realise why he had such a negative slant about the Raiders.
Think odds dropped after my post below a couple of weeks back. And wouldn’t you know it they may get Carroll that no one else wants

Just ask prospective coaches. They’ve been having to get the scraps of prospects for a long time. Art Shell 2, Kiffin, Cable, Hue, Allen. Took a huge life changing contract to get Gruden and then back to McDaniels and Pierce. Zero chance they get Johnson or Vrabel.

Thats probably a fair comment.

More so I was referencing to the wiz kid tag on a successful OC, who has haloed the masses with game day tactics, but short on real world smarts and savvy, in an alfa male environment, thats needed to manage a variety of groups of people in a variety of roles within the entire organisation.

Whenever there is a HC opening the new appointee is generally walking into a cluster fu(k.

In my experience in management, you need a steely strong resolve and a super thick skinned persona and character needed to withstand the initial onslaught, countering such with strong decisions and convictions, to start righting a listing ship.

I hope he proves me wrong ( I like the guy seems like a nice guy) ... like I said pretty illogical on my behalf.

But sports at that level, is first and foremost a business and image, profitability and winning matter, it's a blood sport because it takes no prisoners and is unforgiving thats why ......... nice guys finish last in such an environment.

Generally those that are successful are either extremely strong characters, and or, have a large dose of James Hunt about them.... most have both.
