I’d say another week. He headed to hospital if I remember Wed late afternoon (13/11) and reportedly in hospital for up to a couple of weeks.

Main news on Monday will be the full squad back training and Narkle being added via SSP. At some point after that we’ll hear about Jones and any train on options.

What about the Irish bloke Kelm? St Kilda announced an Irish Cat B in and amongst the draft. I know the rules around nominating Irish is different but I’m not sure we’re actually selecting the fella.

The AFL is becoming poorer and poorer at publishing these more specific off season dates. In the past you could list Irish rookies until some time in December but finding out what date that is in 2024 is borderline impossible. Unless you want to know when the National Draft is or trade period dates you’re almost relying on some random journo randomly spilling the beans.

Having said that there seems to be no reason to wait other than we’re not listing an Irish rookie at all.

It’s a bit disappointing as the last three years our picks (bar maybe Reid) have been speculative at best. It’s more important than normal to find extra players in a slightly unconventional way. Apart from bringing in Jackson and Bolton and a first round pick, Draper is the only player that’s shown enough so far to genuinely have me convinced he’ll be a long term AFL player. It’s early days so I’m sure one or two others will make it but it’s a little concerning.

If we can be dominant enough in general stoppage clearances but not quite so dominant that the opposition just expect it and cover everyone, then we could sit Walters off the contest purely to hit the pass for a mark forward or on the forty-five.

He won't make space for himself by outrunning his opponent or outmuscle them but maybe we can use his most potent weapon in his kick to drag a defender out to man him up.

I like this. Use his strengths and don't expose his weaknesses.

A question - can a player be a RFA after they have been on the list for 8 years?
Eg - Weitering was a UFA next year as he was OOC and 10 years on the list. Same thing for Bontempelli when he’s OOC Next year.

Both those guys are well and truly in their clubs top 25% paid players.

Asking because I saw a post from PurpleReign95 on X saying that Switta was an RFA in 2026 when he’s next OOC. He would be nine years on the list by then and aged 29/30 so I can’t see how he can be an RFA?
Pretty sure this is incorrect.
In any case I would very much doubt he’s in our top 25% of earners too.

Ten years is the UFA threshold, as is if you have extended when out of contract as a RFA. Top 25% of squad and under ten years but over eight years, RFA.

But if you moved as a free agent to another club and were there for 8 years, you can be a restricted free agent again - as Franklin was.
