Walsh is a hard one he absolutely loves the place and Hates it at the same time.

I think if you could get something good for him that it could be a win win for both club and player.

Pls explain - hates the team balance, his positioning on the ground or the coaching directives?

Also - Hewitt might fly under the radar but super important to our team structure. Probably more so than Cerra (more skilful but not as consistent).

You’ve forgotten to mention he’s also out of form, is coming off another interrupted pre season, is clearly not at his best, like pretty much the rest of the team

Hes also -
A powerful runner
An endurance beast
Ball winner at will
An All Australian
A Gary Ayers medallist in a team that didn’t even make the granny
Endurance is a good quality.

But we also desperately need…

mids that help improve our transition game and better deliveries into f50. We need elite kicking.
We need more goals from mids.

Anyone actually think TDK will stay?

Will be easy for clubs to match what we have on offer $$wise and we can see some others easily able to offer more. Much more competitive clubs pies Sydney heck maybe even Brisbane, cotton on Group, could rustle up about what we can offer on $.
The first few weeks will have done nothing to convince him to stay.

All true. But you've gotta give to get.

It seems counterintuitive to trade a young, talented, hard-running mid, when we're a team who desperately need run. But we also need good ball use, and even at his best he was never in the top echelon for that particular skill.

It's not so much that people are desperate to trade him, but that circumstances may conspire to make him the most tradeable.

He's out of contract, will likely attract significant interest from other clubs, and if we want/need to up our offer to TDK to retain him, then we may not be in a position to pay Walsh what he may want. If we could get two picks in the 8-12 range, or one top 5 pick, then it puts us in a position to address some glaring deficiencies in our list.

Sure, we'd be better off losing someone like Gov, or Doc, or Williams, or Young. But nobody is giving us anything of any value for them. Those names are the ones that may make way to facilitate the default list turnover (constituting a few father/son and NGA picks in the second and third rounds), but not much else. If we want to significantly improve the list then we need to turn tradeable assets in areas we can cover into quality players that address our needs.

I wouldn't want to flip Walsh for a couple of speculative picks in the draft, mind you. Would only do it if we could in turn secure (at least) a quality best 22, ready to go player who addresses our ball movement issues, but ideally that plus a handy pick to take to the draft.

I've been very critical of Walsh but I think we need to persist with him. He's getting in good positions. Just need to clean up decision making. I think that will help with his disposal efficiency.

Easy to forget how good he was in 23.

The only thing that'd keep Walsh would be the promise of being next captain. As much as I loved Walsh from day one and he's in my keeper league and player watch him hard, he really does hack his kicks. Seldom does he lace a guy out. A lot of our bombed in forward 50 entries are off his boot.
Don't disagree, but he can kick well sporadically....

It's all in the head imo.

Assuming we’ve presented our best offer then I’d think it’s unlikely he stays now. I just hope if he does go that it’s not to StKilda.

A gut feeling that if we trade Walsh (I dread to a Geelong or similar) that he'd return to being a champion almost overnight and make us regret moving him on. Of course, he could take that option out of our hands next year.
He has every capacity of going back to superman mode and it would burn us hard. He would benefit first and foremost from a positional change. But the more they try to keep him in the guts, the worse his output will be.

If he could at least clean up his kicking that would be a huge help...

Cerra is a good kick but he is now at half back - I think we need good kickers forward of centre to help the i50 efficiencies.
