All I hope is Austin and co have some names lined up for next year to fill that void if the form issues persist amongst our lot.

We won't have a heap of trade capital but small forwards play a massive part in the modern game, going another season without any established threats is a risk we've almost been forced to take given we had other list holes to fill too.
Especially when we have the twin towers up forward - these small forwards should have a great time picking up the loose ball.

Anyway, I'm sure we'll have a much better year.
I'm looking forward to Motlop injury free and Moir stepping up.

I think if the club decides to commit to Lemmey being a forward, then we need a defender which makes DGB the likely signing (assuming he impresses at training and remains injury free).

If they believe Lemmey might be more viable as a defender then that opens up a spot for McMahon.

Not sure that either Lemmey or McMahon will reach AFL level, but comparing their performances in VFL games last year, it was McMahon, not Lemmey, who was somewhat effective as a key-position forward. At least McMahon could take contested marks up forward and kick goals from them.

I know he's young, but I can't remember ever seeing Lemmey doing that against an opponent of similar size which I think is pretty important for a key forward.

If the club does decide to commit to Lemmey, they would be seeing something in him that is not so noticeable from his VFL performances. Whichever way it goes, I'm sure the club will make the right decision.

Hopefully Tyson Gresham turns into a Darcy Jones type over the next 12 months.

But it has been a problem for a very long time. IMO 2020-21 Eddie Betts is the best small forward we’ve had in a decade.

Durdin and Fogarty aren’t small forwards, rather midfielders who are ok pressure players. I’m not expecting much from them.

Williams has very little history as a small forward outside of the second half of last year, albeit he looked good when he did.

Fantasia is just an honest trier now, all the spark and flair of earlier years is long gone and isn’t coming back.

Motlop is a proper small forward with real goal sense so we need him to hit the scoreboard regularly next year.

I wouldn’t mind us trying Doc there as he has good goal sense but it just highlights what slim pickings we have.

Maybe not so much Fogarty, but Durdin was def seen as a small forward. Fog was more a projection to be a small forward due to his size. Also, based on the mid time Voss gave him this year... yeah, he wasn't much chop in there...

You do see though that the club have been trying to address this for a while now... so my point stands that Durdin, Fog and Motlop need to step up next year.

I think we'd be too tall(not enough mobility and pressure) if we went with Harry, Charlie, TDK and Liam in the one side.
He'd need to be the 3rd tall lead up type due to his slim build. The question would be "are Kemp, Moir and JSOS and HOK better options.'
I'm all in on selecting though.
Charlie would be great in the 3rd tall role.

I'd be intrigued to see this structure:
  • Harry stays home as the deep forward
  • McMahon slightly up the ground to provide a target down the line
  • Charlie going wherever he wants
If we had have landed Hayward or Stengle as free agents this off season would have been an all timer.

Our last major hole on the list, our current crop are simply putrid ATM.
So far they haven't shown a heap, but I firmly believe they have the talent to be much better. Hoping the preseason under Inness sets them up for a big year.

Sorry to ask again, but does this make us
36 Senior players
4 Category A Rookies
2 Category B Rookies

Also, just my opinion, but I'd probably go 1 SSP, and then sees what might happen at MSD - possibly another player of quality like Cooper Lord...?
Yep, that's it.

I think we'll take 2 at the SSP. MSD more for injury cover imo. Now, whether we take 2 from the 4 train-ons or not is another question - we don't have to take any of them.

I think we'll take McMahon, but no idea on the second pick, will see how it pans out over summer. There are a number of variables - not just the performances of the four in question (McMahon, Carroll, Durdin, DGB). But also, how Kemp and Silvagni perform in their respective new roles. How Duffy & Monahan progress. Players like Lemmy, O'Keeffe, and our new recruits.

I just don't think Lemmey is an AFL player. Too slow and not agile. I hope I'm wrong.

2025 is make or break for him.
When you factor McMahon is only 2 years older, it's chalk and cheese in terms of output thus far.

Wasn’t Durdin a midfielder as a junior? Regardless if he has been selected as a small forward then that is a very poor pick as he has very little goal sense, can barely kick 40 metres and is a 50/50 set shot from 30 metres directly in front. I doubt he’ll ever kick 25 goals in a season.

I don’t disagree. I assume that the club sees potential development in Lemmey given they handed him the extra year on his contract.

Hopefully he adds more strength this summer and he can start to assert himself more next year.

But yeah, McMahon has definitely shown more than Lemmey has to date.

U16s he was, but he transitioned to a forward in his draft year.

Weren't they talking up Lemmey's pre-season last year. He has been inconsistent in the VFL but has shown glimpses.

2 years is an eternity for a developing KPP

He need to develop this year, but there is something there to work with.

I don't want to sign Sam Durdin again as his body breaks down all the time...
I would rather DGB than him.
Hopefully we sign DGB and Liam McMahon by the end of the trial period.

Prefer just to sign McMahon, we have JSOS and Young with Lemmey/McMahon extra backup

That’s plenty, certainly don’t want Big Durds he’s got a body made out of crepe paper. If they want another tall to play reserves then DGB but I really don’t think it’s needed

I think there’s some good talent not picked up from the drafts that now go back to state leagues and a real chance to improve themselves, so guaranteed one in the MSD would be preferable, though I know we’ll have a long term injury that will give us another shot at some stage but I’d prefer guaranteed chance.

Can someone please help me understands. We've had 10 players leave the club. Kennedy, Owies, Martin, Cuningham, Marchbank, J. Carroll, S. Durdin, M. Carroll, Mirkov, Akuei. We have had 7 players come in. Jagga, O'Farrell, Ben Campo, Lucas Campo, Haynes, Charleson, Duffy. Dosn't that leave 3 spots? I'm seeing 2 a lot around for the SSP. Did we have a Long Term Injury and Cooper Lord took that spot mid season? Or is it a matter of max list size of 44, but we can take 42-44 into a season? Or have i missed something?
