Pretty much exactly how I’d like to see us line up round 1.

The only one I’ll question, and I do understand that they’re totally different players, is Moir v Durds.

Now, I might be wrong, but there’s something about Moir. I reckon he has ‘it’.

I was tossing up between Kemp & Moir for one spot. Kemp just has more time in the system and is more adaptable. If Moir has a full pre season he will be hard to keep out

I like this team. I still think there are guys who are not 100% genuine bonafide forwards in our best 22. Elijah and Williams have to prove they are genuine forwards, to me they look like good all round footballers but part time forwards more than permanent ones. Motlop hasn't played a good all round game in a long time. Durdin hasn't since 2022. So this is our barometre. I think Moir will be there, he's 100% genuine forward.

Silvagni at FB is very nostalgic, but worthwhile trying. I think Haynes gets first crack there.

I like Smith on wing. He and Elijah rotating with him is something I like.

Our list has got better. I like our new look midfield with Smith and Lord coming in.

Starting to have some good youth in the ressies.

Smith comes into best 23 from Day1 - so, I've made huge changes :p (actually just replaced #3 with Smith)
Smith is actually very versatile, it would be interesting to see where we start him in AFL - he can play a few position coming off the bench.

For my best 23, I would like the younger guys to push for best 23 - we need their energy, enthusiasm & speed - mixed with our core group, we have a really potent side.

There are question marks all over these young guys, but we need to give them an opportunity to shine.
Bring on 2025 already!

Decisions:
  • Cowan vs Wilson - I went with Wilson, I think his speed will really help us
  • Boyd vs Newman - I love Boyd, but as I have enough young players I need some more wiser heads
  • Durdin vs Motlop - I went with Motlop and hoping for a big year from him. Our forward line needs more potency i.e. every player of being able to kick multiple goals in any given week
  • Haynes vs JSOS - I went for more flexibility with having both JSOS and Kemp in the side
  • Fogarty vs Lord - I hope we've gone pass Fogarty
Not directed at you JD, and I understand people's preferences and or having favourites but some of the younger players might need more time

The club also isn't going to have higher paid player compared to rookie/development players, sitting in tge VFL if they are still contributing more at senior level

Jsos v Haynes
I don't care which of them plays, but I suspect that Haynes gets first crack

Ollie, I don't think he will start at HB. Good to know he can play as a distributor, but think he goes back to a wing

Lord doesn't have the tank to play wing and his traits are more suited to stoppages

Lemmey played 3 games down back mid year from memory, which was good by the club to get a look with how he would adapt in a defensive KP role, was fairly ordinary the first two games but applied himself much better in the third game…

I was one of a few that mentioned having a look at him down in defense, just to get an idea on what he had to offer as well, see if he looked better suited in that role, taking into account it was only a very small sample whilst playing in a struggling team, he looks more natural and better suited up forward to me…

Needs to work on his strength and physicality when contesting and marking the ball, for me we need to draft a KPD hoping Dennis or O’Farrell possibly another who we rate who is available before a bid on BenCampo would be a great outcome…

We have a good group and variety of younger players who mostly have shown flashes of their ability, would be good to see as many as possible step up their games to levels that improve themselves more consistently, we also need a strong preforming reserves team that hopefully shows proper player development equally as important a better drilled team as well…

It best 23, not necessarily start of RD1.

At some point in time in the 2025 season, I would like more investment into youth.
As a club, we have not trusted our youth enough, in recent times.

I think the mix of youth and our mainstays will do wonder for our team

I don't really think we haven't trusted our youth and you only have to look at a side like the Cats who take their time to develop young players before they are mainstays

Ollie and Cowan played early, Cowan went back to work on some areas and has still come back in a number of times

During rebuild years, absolutely play youth over bigger body role players, but I prefer to win games and let our youth develop until they are deemed ready and or when they show consistency at the lower level

I'd love to see Harry McKay played at CHB - that is my random thought bubble for the day.

* A few rookies added this afternoon to round out the list ??

* Obviously form depending, would like to see Newman transition towards Wilson as the season unfolds and into next year …

* Docherty the seventh defender.
Smith and Lord the main midfield rotations.
Durdin and Williams to alternate forward with occasional spurts further afield in conjunction with E.Hollands.

* A fit mobile Curnow further upfield utilising his lethal field kicking with McKay deep giving TDK a chopout when needed.
Kemp as the third banana will appreciate the quality of Smith’s delivery into the forward line.

What I think will be the Best 22 Round 1 Next Year

FB: Newman (small defender) Weitering (full back) [Kemp / Silvagni] (third tall defender)
HB: Saad (half back) McGovern (centre half back) Boyd (half back)

R: De Koning (ruck) Cripps (ruck rover) Smith (rover)
C: Acres (wing) Walsh (centre) O. Hollands (wing)

HF: E. Hollands (half fwd) McKay (centre half fwd) Fogarty (pressure fwd)
FF: Motlop (small fws) Curnow (full fwd) [Kemp / Silvagni] (third tall fwd)

Int: Hewett (mid rotation) Cincotta (def rotation) Williams (fwd rotation) Docherty (utility)
Sub: whomever

Hmmn, the above doesn't have Cerra. That would obviously need to change. It's a good problem to have! Tight spots. Cowan also isn't in the above! Whom i love. Very tough.

I prefer to have McKay supporting TDK in the ruck.

Harry plays and have had much better games when he played that role

Yes very tight

I would go with Cowan in for Boyd and Cerra in for Cincotta. That would leave IC to be Hewett, Ollie, Williams and Doch. Sub could be Cincotta or SOS (but I would prefer SOS over Kemp at this stage without seeing their 2025 form).
