Gather Round tickets snapped up in record time

The AFL is pleased to announce that more than 195,000 Gather Round…Festival of Footy tickets have sold… with five of the nine games sold out, 20,000 more than this time last year.

Member on sale on Tuesday saw a significant uplift in demand for tickets this year, selling more than 100,000 tickets in the first four hours, in comparison to the same amount in 24 hours last year.

This year there are an extra 47,000 tickets on offer for fans with the two Saturday matches being ticketed separately.

Tickets still remain for Collingwood vs Sydney Swans on Friday night, Carlton vs West Coast on Saturday afternoon, Melbourne vs Essendon on Saturday night and a very limited number of restricted view tickets and tickets for the Pepsi Collective for Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn on Sunday evening.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said it was clear Gather Round momentum was not slowly down.

“The demand for tickets this year was significantly higher than the first two Gather Rounds, with more than 195,000 tickets being purchased in the first two days,” said Mr Dillon.

“A ticket to the matches at the Barossa Park was always going to be one of the hottest tickets in town and the fans have certainly illustrated that by selling out both matches so quickly.”

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “Gather Round continues to exceed all expectations.

“We are honoured that so many footy fans from around the country are making the commitment to travel to our beautiful state to experience this event like no other.

“They’ll be truly welcome.

“If you haven’t got a ticket already – get in quick!”

Tickets for the remaining matches can be found here.

They haven’t sold to the public but in 2017, 2022, 2023 they opened it on the night due to larger than expected GA turnouts.

I don’t think that will be the case tonight but I hope to be proven wrong. Expecting 67-70k.
Would like to amend that way down to 60-63 given how sparse the afl and the ponsford is. Hopefully it builds in the next halfa but the afl is empty up top.

Okay, looking around the ground I would say there is over 70K here

Hard to get a read with the disparity around the ground. Ponsford bottom half empty, but Olympic and public of SWS to capacity.

When you get a GA ticket does it say enter any gate? Or a particular one? Always amazes me how much more full the punt road end is at Richmond games and how they could practically close the Ponsford for some.

Both Melbourne and Richmond GA members gravitate to the Olympic and Warne stands. Not surprising the ponsford isn’t full.

The Afl Members is basically as full as it always is for this matchup.

Any gate. But Jolimont and Richmond station are both closer to the Olympic and GSS, so it's the first one they see. Plus most don't realise how to get into the Ponsford once they're inside.

Apparently Ticketek (in conjunction with the MCC) are cracking down on adults buying kids tickets. They have sent out emails targeting people who have been exclusively buying kids tickets - without an accompanying adult ticket.

Tickets have been locked and you have to physically go to the ticket window and prove you have kids to get them unlocked, or pay to upgrade to an adult ticket.

The attached photo was posted by @adriansal80 on Twitter. Unless the hyperlink is hiding something, the email seems legit.

I know people have been getting pulled up at Marvel for this (the entry screen says what type of ticket you’ve scanned), and now the MCC is on it.

Will be very interesting to see how this impacts crowds - apparently it’s a more substantial problem than I was aware of. The cost difference is massive between kids tickets and adult, so there’s likely a lot of people who’ll think twice about going.

The MCG has had this for a long time. It flashed a different colour if you had a concession ticket. My Dad had been pulled up numerous times for using the concession ticket as we had a pensioner in our group of 10.

It won’t impact crowds. People will just pay the extra $20 or so.

The GF crowd will be interesting this year - they have removed 100- 200 seats in the MCC to allow for the new player benches. So if the capacity was really 100,018 previously, it must now be around 99,850 now.
Did they really remove that many?

It’s 100,024 and they will let more walk ups into the mcc for standing room. The attendance has been above the legal capacity in the last few years but they can’t say that they allowed 100,200 into the ground so they say something just under 100,024.
Heard this from the mouth of an mcc employee. Might be wrong but doubt it.
