Isn’t he like 38? Warner will run rings around him and laugh as he does it.

Still easily their best mid and it isn't close actually. I'm more petrified of Warner giving away a bucket of 50's this week with the HTB interpretation coming in

How many did Reid give away?

Not sure can't say I watched that match, was at the track

The answer is none. Breaking tackles isn't impacted by the rule change. Chad will be fine. Same story with Bont and Naicos on Friday.

I still saw absolutely no difference in the "new interpretation".

Some guys were given an eternity, some were given hardly any time, and some weren't even penalised at all.

Apparently there were significantly more HTBs paid across the round compared to any other, but if it's just as inconsistently and cluelessly officiated as the previous interpretation then it doesn't actually make any difference.

Still the same lottery.

One observation I saw (no idea if it's correct) was that players were trying to get rid of the ball more quickly. That would be a plus. Incorrect disposal remains a dog's breakfast.

The doomsday scenario is that in congestion, teams are coached to not try and get the hard ball, but instead, wait for their opponent to get it & then immediately apply a tackle leaving 1 arm free.

Nathan Buckley also made a really good point on the topic this morning: the new interpretation compels the ball-carrier to try and get rid of it, even if they have no prior. If they have an arm pinned - the only option is to try and kick it .... which increases the chances they'll be flung to the ground & hit their head (as the ball-carrier will effectively be on 1 leg and unbalanced, with an arm pinned).

I hate these mid-season rule changes. Absolutely hate them.

Would also lower the risk of these sling/dangerous tackles

Been saying it for years umpires not calling incorrect disposal and or HTB are mainly at fault not the players

From the side that beat Bulldogs, looks pretty simple.

Out: Francis
In: McCartin

Backs: Mccartin, Melican, Rampe, Blakey, Florent, Cunningham, Roberts

Mids: Warner, Heeney, Rowbottom, Gulden, Lloyd, McInerney, Jordon

Forwards: Amartey, McDonald, McLean, Papley, Hayward, Wicks, Adams

Ruck: Grundy

Sub: Campbell

Yep. Easy cut and paste job for Horse this week

It's such a pathetic and spineless move to make a sudden change based on media pressure

The problem itself was brought on by the umpiring department dicking around with interpretations of the rules we already had anyway.

Particularly D50 stoppages. Defenders paranoid to carry the ball, just dropping it out. Small forwards waiting to either pounce on the loose ball or just holding off a fraction to tackle.

Was also noticeable that simply taking the ball at speed is considered prior opportunity, so doing that with the hope of bursting through the immediate tackle now risks a HTB against.

Yep if JPK was still playing this new rule would of nullified him dramatically think it will have a effect on Warner and Reid.

The thing is the AFL change the rules week to week, just for once they were open about it.

Danger ? can't agree with that.

But he can still turn it on for sure.

Who is better this year? Holmes is on par and he’s barely played as a full time mid
