Am i the only one that would rather Josh Green than Klay?
Absolutely not. At best maybe you get more out of Klay next season but seems you're giving up a better defender and more athletic player for a washed up shooter. Sure he may have a few more old man smarts but if Luka keeps holding the ball not sure how that helps.

Seems Mavs falling into that trap of throwing money and traders for older vets when you're contending which often sees it not work and you've also ****ed your future.

For Green hopefully he'll be able to develop a bit more offensively with the bobcats and land a nice deal.

I mean objectively Klay is just a better player at the moment, who knows going forward. Green fluctuates wildly and is unplayable in a lot of big games. Luka is great at generating open looks for team mates, Klay playing alongside one of the best play makers in the league will be good for him.

They already added Marshall, Grimes who are really good defenders, they have Washington and Lively who are very good defenders. They needed someone who can knock down open shots. If my goal is to try and win a title next year i would prefer Klay to Green.

Didn't they offer him 2/48 before the season? 50% more per season than he eventually took.

Bit weird how it all played out, regardless. Never feels right seeing a stalwart leave in these circumstances.
No tax in Texas and mavs have a better chance at a title than the warriors.

Klay is so washed. 3 years is insanity
He is still one of the best 3 point shooters in the league, he is just no longer an elite player. He is an elite shooter who needs to share the court with other players to cover his weaknesses. Plenty of players in the league that are essentially just defensive specialists or shooters or rebounders. Klay is not washed as a player, he still has something to offer.

He has fallen off the cliff. The decline will be rapid now. Lots of money for a spot up shooter who is a statue on defence.

Hartenstein just got 30 million dollars a year

Tobias Harris just got 26 million dollars a year

16 million with new money is really not that much at all.

He will get 6 shots a game up with Irving/Doncic at the helm

Its a shocking fit really. He either starts at SF and gets monstered by other SF making the defense worse or he comes off the bench which isnt something he has shown he can do

They also lose Josh Green too who isnt a bad player at all

Most logical move was to stay at Warriors

What an absolutely piece of shit Klay Thompson is btw

Sooks and moans about GSW mot offering him the max or enough money then leaves to take 17 mill at Dallas

Zero loyalty when it was very easy to show sone.
Loyalty is not owed in sport, he delivered them 4 rings and they delivered him generational wealth. Neither party owed the other anything.

He is literally just a THJ replacement and he is a massive upgrade over him. He will play most of his minutes with probably only one of Kyrie or Luka on the floor and be an incredible floor spacer for a team that has a guy that is constantly double teamed. They now have a choice to make between doubling Luka and leaving a lethal 3 point shooter open or trying to guard Luka straight up.

Green minutes will be eaten up by Marshall and Grimes. He is an okay role player but he goes completely missing in so many games.

Seems odd to leave for money GSW very likely could have offered but he thinks he's way better than he is still. He gets to move somewhere closer to a ring though it's weird to leave such a dynasty on bad terms

Re-signing Dray, not getting rid of Wiggins, the Poole extension then salary dump, CP3. A lot of desperate moves by them the last few years, safe to say it's over now. Owner just wants to get under the luxury tax at this point which I believe has been done

PG and E Gordon coming in, De'Anthony being De'surplus

Am i the only one that would rather Josh Green than Klay?

Klay was once a defensive menace wasnt he. and by menace meaning good menace.

anyway rich get richer.

Very well put. Forgot about Grimes coming in .

In saying that surely Klay wants a bigger role then THJ had? Id be shocked if he agreed to go on the basis of being a bench bum

Oh he will get a bigger role by simply being better, THJ wasn't benched because he wasn't needed. He was benched because he was so dog shit he was unplayable. He is not only a better shooter but somehow even in his current state probably a better defender.

I think one of the biggest issues the Mavs found in the finals was they just lacked shooting around Kyrie and Klay.

Gafford/Lively are non shooters.

PJ Had a great run but is not a consistent outside threat.

DJJ is okay but streaky.

Green is an okay shooter but again not reliable.

THJ needed to be the outside threat to punish teams but he couldn't do that. Klay can fit that role perfectly. Fair chance it might age poorly, it certainly has some risk but 16 million in current contracts is far from horrendous imo.
