Austin's been labelled a pushover at times because he does deals quickly and doesnt negotiate as ruthlessly as others. Hes not the guy that is going to be arguing till the deadline over a 4th round pick. Not his style.

This is where it works for you. Bris F2 for 31 was unders for us but got it done quick. Offered F1+F2 straight up for 14. Ended up about market but we got there quicker then others. Just look at pies initial offer for 13.

Put us in the position to nab 3. Other list managers more preoccupied with winning every trade wouldnt have had the assets to jump at that opportunity.

Yeah, at first glance, I was like what the hell is he doing? We should have got better value for #31...

But once all the pieces were put together, it made sense. Can't trade F1 + F2 unless you have another F2.

The initial goal was to get another first rounder...

Contrast to the Eagles who wanted to play hardball over a couple of token picks... once they dug themselves into a hole, Austin was quick to swoop in and we ended up with Jagger Smith as a result.

It was a seriously amazing outcome for the club to snag a player like Jagga whilst being a finals team in flag contention.
I mean we basically cashed out of the top 35 in two drafts to make it happen, including coughing up players like Taj Hotton, Cooper Hynes, and Bo Allan along the way. Apparently we could have got a future first and change off North for pick 14 too!

So no, it's not some incredible twist of fate, we've put a lot of eggs in the basket for this one, and we've still got so little faith in the depth chart at either end we're hosting a veritable gaggle of mature talls for one list spot.

It's a gamble. We've got a very good player, and we've got some other solid players, but we're cashing in on the depth of the list and the fortune of securing the Campo twins and Duffy.

Maybe you missed it, but the Tigers took Taj before we would have been able to pick him had we kept pick 12 anyway...

We wouldn't have got "change" from North had we kept 14. That pick pushed out to 17. It would have been 17 for their F1.

We also have the fortune of Cody Walker in a couple years time...

We have Jack Ison who could be taken within 40 next year (without looking at the nga changes). We can also trade our 2026 first into 2025 with the thought that Cody Walker will be a first rounder.

Could very likely end up with a first and second round pick quite easily. In fact, I've always wondered why we don't always trade future firsts into the current year.

Fair, I've got some of the picks muddled, but still Allan and Hynes. Can't imagine it would have been hard to move from our original 1st rounder to the pick Richmond used on Hotton though. You're right that North would have wanted a straight swap, but that's still a favourable deal, and it may have net us some later pick swaps to give us the ability to manoeuvre in the 2nd round.

Walker is one player, we've got problems on the horizon in the midfield next and over the next 3 years, and we're going to have to get pretty creative to solve them.

Our midfield depth is all pretty young...

Walsh, Cerra, Hollands brothers, Campo, Jagga, Lord. We also need a couple of players to round this out.

According to a few articles on the AFL website he is already on the list, but there hasn't been an official announcement by the club yet.
And not one of the cat B added yesterday

Six clubs also added Next Generation Academy players to their lists as category B rookies: Jayden Nguyen (Essendon), Lachlan Gulbin (Gold Coast), Josaia Delana (GWS), Ricky Mentha (Melbourne), Benny Barrett (Port Adelaide) and Malakai Champion (West Coast)
