Nothing like them. He can (at times) intercept mark like them. But his marking is due to raw athleticism and power rather than elite footy positioning, IQ and defensive craft. Doesn’t have the skills of either of those two.
Fair enough, they were unusual comparisons to see because those two guys have strengths that rarely show themselves at 18 years old.

Who is a decent comparison, then? Balta? He's a 194cm, athletic swingman.

Since many here keep bangin on about him, ZH piece on Gerreyn.

What pick could get it done?

When we don't even know all the players outside of the first round on where they will go its quite hard to predict Kayle's pick number, then throw in other draft people that might suggesting the 40s or 50s and others that say in the 30s then you can clearly see the problem. First of all there would be the question of "how bad do you want him"? While at the moment its deadly quiet about who likes who, the clubs will put out feelers to get their intel on where certain players may go and what club is very interested in what player.

My guess is early in the second round, if a club is unsure if he'll last till their next pick or that the intel says that a couple of clubs are very interested in him then if you value him that highly you get him, in this game of chess the rule of thumb is not to pay overs, meaning if you have a pick and you have the chance to get your player, then try and trade down a little and get a bonus pick while still being able to get your player.

Now there are exceptions of course, like if three or four teams don't offer you the picks that you think is a fair trade, even in a strong draft some teams just wont do it, then you have to weigh up that important question, Do I get him, with my pick even though he's projected to go several spots later and no club will do a deal that satisfies everyone or do I JUST SELECT ONE OF THE TOP TALENTS STILL ON THE BOARD because they are rated better players?

My philosophy is "always back yourself in", no matter what, I feel that Brady and Will are not going to do the latter, whoever is on our whiteboard at number one, if all else fails then get him, whoever it is if we think that our first pick is going to be special, call his name out and make him a Kangaroo! Sorry for the extended answer to a simple question, as you can see, the second half of my post was referencing our dilemma with our first pick, as long as we get our man and I believe we will then the objective will be obtained.

Yeah but 2 things play into that.

1. However this Tauru stuff got leaked it’s hurt your ability to hold out for better assets as now Melbourne are boxing you in and Carlton have no interest in moving. So it’s P2 or Adelaide - The player himself is now apparently a top 5 lock either way

2. The talent is great in this draft. But there isn’t the elite talent of a Reid or Naicos and thus no one wants to sell the farm to get up and are happy to stay put.

And yes I get you can just take a mid. But it’s been weeks of this Tauru crap. It’s clear that he is who you want
Maybe, maybe not. Alix may well be on our list say at 2 on our whiteboard and we may want to get him but our big surprise at our first pick might not be a player that the media or supporters have a clue to who it is until draft night.

I've seen Tauru compared to Sicily and Tom Stewart. Are these comparisons fair? I reckon those players are hard to predict at 18 years old because so much of it is mentality.
You are quite correct. We compare players all the time in past era's and even in this era, but for youngsters at 18 that is all we can do to get a gauge on their potential, by watching them, how does he play when his team is losing, does he throw in the towel?

Does he play by the coaches game plan or is he a rebel? Many more questions but the thing is the recruiter has to back himself in. Alix to me plays very much like James Sicily but his marking and the way he goes about it is very much Nick Riewoldt and I mean to a tee.

Its quite uncanny to watch him mark or attempt to mark because in all the years since Nick retired, no one has even came close to the way he went about it, until now. So you have the marking of Nick Riewoldt and the positioning and style of play of James Sicily, what do you think?

As for your first sentence, whose to say, is Sam Lalor the next "Dusty", is Harvey Langford the next "Bont", since its all we have to go on, I think its more than fair, he has something, there is no doubt about it, a long way to go but what if he was to be another "Ross Glendinning" would people worry about a couple of picks here and there compared to if he ended up at say Richmond or Melbourne or St Kilda, and was a star, just imagine the melts on this board, it would be legendary.

I may be on my own in this, but i see genuine crumbing and pressure small forwards as a bigger need for us than developing talls. This isn't the draft to address it - there's no one i'd move positions to try to take - but i'd rather move resources to next year rather than trade into this year. I like the idea of 2 to StK for 7 and F1 because it moves assets into next year where we could potentially pick up an elite crumber. With 7, early bid on Kako, and assuming that fails live trade the 7 for a few picks inside 25 - not sure who or how viable this is. Those two picks could end up as talls like Trainor, Sims, or Faull. I'd rather any two of those than just Tauru @ 2, and that's without even considering Saints F1, which could be really handy for manuvering during the trade and/or draft period next year, especially if we happen to show a bit this year.

That sounds far more competent than what it looks like we are doing.

Though I think there are a couple of small forwards we could go after, especially Hannaford.
