Rumours that Dees may take Tauru at #5, so looks like Roos may need to take him at pick #2.

Ignoring key position players in previous drafts is coming back to haunt them...

North have sort of boxed themselves in by taking so many mids with high picks.

They’ve picked up some terrific players but at some point it becomes too much of the same type and it means some either get pushed out of the midfield or they lose their spot in the team outright.

Unfortunately for them the high end players this year are all mids. So either they take yet another one or they bite the bullet and reach for a key position player eg tauru.

Talls also take longer to develop so when their mids reach their prime they may run into the issue of the talls they have selected either not being ready to break out or simply not making it.

History shows that successful key forwards especially tend to be high picks. Defenders not so much.

Can understand them taking clear midfield guns, but they have made some weird choices when a better key position player was still available.

Phillips over McDonald most thought was wrong on the night & looks even worse now.

Fogarty, Daniher, McKay, curnow, wright, stringer, amiss, Cameron (would’ve been high if not a pre select), Ben king, hogan, lynch, max king, Darcy, JUH

All top 10 picks or very close to it and all among the leading goal kickers the last few years. Yes some come from later (mihocek, Tracey, Lewis, Larkey, waterman) but it’s typically the top end guys.

No doubt north have been a little stiff with their options but there’s an imbalance there regardless. Since 2017 they’ve taken ldu, Thomas, Phillips, jhf, sheezel, wardlaw, mckercher and Duursma with top 10 selections. Duursma the only one taller than 190cm and even he was a hybrid midfielder in his draft year.

Full season highlights for Harvey Langford. These highlights demonstrate what a consistently powerful and prolific season Langford has had, in terms of sheer performance level perhaps only matched by Jagga Smith. Deservedly named joint Larke medalist, and demonstrated his leadership traits in propelling both his Vic Country and Dandenong Stingrays teams to excellent seasons even if they did ultimately fall short of the major trophies. If he can overcome some concerns around his athletic profile, he could end up starring at the next level.

Does anyone do lowlight videos of these draft prospects?

A lot of you are forgetting Mitchell Stephens. He a F/S for us. According to Mutineer and reports he is coming along nicely. IMO we would be stupid to trade up. Just stay where we are at Pick 4.

Doubt we will need to give up too much for him and can always manufacture future picks 2 years in advance , not worried about that

Drugs the same poster has a playlist of all the main guys in the draft, his videos show every involvement good or bad. It’s good stuff.

The Langford highlights package is no doubt impressive, it does hide his deficiencies (namely his lack of a fend or explosion at stoppage) however

That said, for those who haven’t paid much attention to him it’s a good eye opener as to how good a talent he actually is. There’s a lot in his game to like.

Actually ridiculously good highlights , he didn’t really have many lowlights in his season so hard to find ‘em to be fair

If anyone can watch that and say he’s too slow to make it at afl they’re having a laugh

Think they might have overdone it with Will Phillips

It was a champion data pick only and not a projection pick into future

We’ve seen how we chuck Dawson up there to mix things up or shake a tag. Daws is a gun but Langford is the more natural marking forward.

Brodie smith from memory also had an underwhelming 20m sprint time.

Some guys just test slow and play fast. Not sure that’s how I would describe Langford but he does have the ability to accelerate from stoppage on occasion, even showed it a couple times in the vfl.

He still has some work to do in terms of not being flat footed no doubt. His midfield craft in general needs improvement but if there’s one positive I think it’s that he actually doesnt use his size enough!

Yep can see him starting on a wing wirh his endurance and inside / outside balance then pushing into being a dominant midfielder

I’m still astonished more people in here don’t rate him as a prospect when there’s a template of similar guns in afl

I can imagine Langford doing afl weights and power training and being quite an athletic unit eventually , he is super fit but looks like he can get way more chiselled

He’s a big boy who looks to be bursting with power. Compare how he operates to Lalor or smillie though. He doesn’t attack the tackler with aggression but instead is quite often flat footed. It doesn’t seem to be a natural thing for him but given his lack of speed it should be part of his arsenal by now.

Yep have noticed that , I actually see it as potential upside , still learning about what he can do etc and how big he is

Huge improvement curve this year so I think he’s still learning

Don't we have Curtin who could be our midfielder who pushes forward?

Also, would like us to try Worrell up forward at times when all our key defenders are available.

I can see Curtin becoming a power midfielder that bursts through tackles like a Dangerfield and storms into the 50 kicking goals. He is a good runner. Just needs some time in the gym and on the running track.

We have two future fourths and in this scenario would still have a future third to spare, not to mention a future first. Would be plenty.

I agree about holding, but if Lalor were to be available at 2…

you're forgetting the picks are worth a lot less now and those 3rds maybe worth very little. If Stephens breaks out we would be struggling to meet the cost. Lalor I agree he would be the only one I would consider trading up for. I personaly would rather stay at 4 and hope Jagga falls to us.

Nope. You are rephrasing my words to make your own point.

I am saying (again) that if a club and its recruiters truly believe there is a generational player available at pick 2 - then trading pick 4 and a F1 is a fair and reasonable price and definitely worth doing it. That was the original argument.

Now to the specifics of our situation. I wouldn't be fussed if we stayed put nor would I be overly fussed if we made the trade. I don't have tremendous faith in our club to pick the right player or identify it - but if Hamish truly believes there is a generational talent at 2 that he can't get at 4 then the club needs to make the trade.

It being a club decision doesn't mean the list manager and head recruitor are joined at the hip.

The list manager and head recruiter should be joined at the hip regardless of any decisions. Also involved heavily should be the head coach.

The real question - is who is the chief and ultimately makes these decisions - surely it should be Adam Kelly.

In fact I would imagine quite the opposite in terms of decisions made at this time of the year.

Joined at the hip - doesn't mean they wont have conflicting opinions - it means they need to be working extremely close together.

And in that scenario Melbourne would almost certainly not execute that trade IMO. But the same trade this year, North would jump at and run out screaming START THE CAR!
