I’m starting to realise you need to wait the best part of 10 years after your KEY pieces in a rebuild have been drafted before your team can look at a flag win.
I think we are 5 years off a flag to be honest.
Andy Brayshaw will need to be 28, Serong 26, Darcy 29, jackson 26, young 26.
Even then we might be early as Amiss and Johnson will only be 24 and probably on the young side, especially amiss in such a critical position on the field.
It’s going to be a frustrating few years yet.

Yay! Welcome aboard.

Yay! Welcome aboard.
It’s still probably a 25% chance of a flag with this method of building from the draft.
The big Melbourne teams in a similar window will be loading up on free agents and trades that aren’t busts, both of which we don’t really have access to.
Also it often is not clear if we picked the right players in the draft for 8 or 10 years.
I’m struggling to see how we can win a flag without nailing some big trades in 2024 or 2025 really

A positive is that we should be at the top when the draft is compromised by Tasmania.

Yep, agree. Still need to do a hell of a lot right, and to have a lot of luck, something we haven't had much of in our existence so far. We need to have the right coach for a flag too, I doubt it's JL.

Yep our coach needs to be better than the like of Carlton or North or Essendon - whoever is at the top of their cycle around that time as it looks like those clubs will be.
They will almost certainly have better players than us as a whole, having recruited quality players that want success.
If our drafting and coaching and development is only equal to those, they will win but virtue of having a deeper pool of talent from trades.

In general I am not big on long-shot, B-grade ceiling KPFs when we already have a few on the list but I think its obvious we are stuggling to take contested marks so a massive dude who can do that might help.
I badly want 3rd, 4th and 5th talls who can jump.

Add a Liam Ryan, Jamie Elliot, and players like this then suddently you are not so dependent on your two KPF's taking lots of marks, plus it gives them more space.

Here are the holes that currently need filling (in my opinion of course)

B. Chapman ???? ????
HB. Clark Cox Young
C. NOD Serong ?????
HF. ???? Jackson
F. Switta Amiss Fredrick

R. Darcy Brayshaw Johnson

Int. Schultz ???? ???? ????

I've no doubt some of these will be filled by players we currently have on our list e.g. Sturt, Raz, Walker, Draper, Treacy, Knobel, Davies etc, and we may reposition one of our defenders to the vacant wing position requiring another defender and that sort of thing, but I think we should be trading and drafting with the holes being a priority.

Surely outside midfielders and wingers should be our imminent priority?

I would put Brodie in and take Shultz out.
Brodie was the main contributor when we went on our run last year.
Shultzy hasn't got the finishing class we desperately need from our smalls.

I posted similar elsewhere but if we can buy a pick 7-10 with our future 1st, do we do it? The previous Melbourne trade would indicate we might have to give up the North 2nd as well to do it, I'd be against doing that but we might be able to find someone who wants to move a top pick into next year.

I can see us wanting to be like Melbourne and now keep moving that future 1st into this year to buy picks a year in advance

If we got pick 7 for our F1 I would do it but I think we both know that ain’t happening.
We’d want to be winning the spoon this year to tempt anyone into that deal.
Clubs know we have a talented core so there’s a fair risk we bump up again to the top 10 at least.
I think our future first would be worth pick 12-14 this year if we sold it. That’s if we stay where we are now

Under no circumstances would I endorse this. I would, by a wide margin, rather pass up the opportunity to swap pick 7 for 18 and 20 than be in the situation we are this year again. It just takes all the joy out of being a supporter (for me).

I think we should back our recruiting and due to where our picks are stay away from Victorian kids unless it’s a no brainer.
First MSD, take a chance, then I like the two WA boys for starters bought up on
here.
Clay Hall at 17 is a plug and play, Luker Kentfield, O’Driscoll, and Hanson, Buller.
All the talk on first rounders but WC did alright with Allen, Ryan than their first pick
Brander.
I think Johnson in the future is going to make other clubs wonder too.
We have to stop tinkering, thinking we are so clever and like the team get back
to basics.

I've never been a fan of picking local but I think it's almost a necessity now. The clue was West Coast giving up pick 2 for unders last year to take WA boys. If they are scared of the Vic boys we should be terrified. I think our recent recruiting reflects the change in recruiter sentiment too.

The other thing we just have to do from here out is plan our list build properly. I get that in 2016 we probably already had our hand in the Lobb and Hogan fire and everyone at the club probably thought we could bounce, but literally every club that is not Geelong shows how foolhardy that is. Start at the spine and balance the list properly on all three lines. No more than 1 or 2 top picks on defenders either.

if we’d kept Logue….

We really need to be needs based for about 2-3 drafts

I don't know anything about him but stumbled on the stats for Coen Livingstone (Perth Colts), 200cm and 96kg. Regularly kicks goals, gets a good deal of kicks, and a heap of hit outs. Anyone seen him play?
Mate of mine who watches the Perth colts reckons he’s a beauty and should be playing league, he’ll be playing in the PSA comp soon would be surprised if those w***ers down the road don’t swoop on him.
