Although we improved this year, we were still a bottom 3 team. Looking at the ladder who we will overtake next year? You would assume WCE stays bottom, but after that those around us should improve. My point is giving away 3 players (two potentially top 5 picks and a gun young player) for Ried doesnt make sense. We have the fewest top 20 picks on a list and should be doing everything we can to get more, not hamper our draft hand for the next two years.
Agreed.

Except we didn’t improve this year, we dropped 10% points and one win on 2022.

The fact the broader industry thought the arse would fall out of the club with the trades / retirements makes us feel better.

We minimised the damage, but we also had a golden run with player availability.

Multiple top 30 picks is better than one unproven golden goose.

Yes you're right.

This conspiracy garbage that Cal is trying to inflate the value of Dear, etc, is absolutely laughable. If anyone thinks it has any influence on list managers then they need to have a word with themselves. Utter nonsense.
It’s one of the dumbest of all diatribes on Bigfooty. Imagine if a single paid club recruiter or list manager was so incompetent as to be influenced by a journalist’s reporting. Twomey just reports what he gets from clubs. And when it comes to the draft he is incredibly accurate in his reporting

Harley Reid discussions really should be called the Golden Goose strategy.

It keeps chewing at me that our F1 could be pick 1 if a few things go wrong for us.

Cal doesn’t influence list managers but he does the media and he builds the hype!

I'm not saying that you're suggesting this, though I need to point this out for the people that are a bit slow on the uptake.

Media hype / hype on the interweb has absolutely no bearing on what list managers do.

yeah the interest in Dear as a ND pick is real

i do think it's possible that Cal's bolters/fallers would make list managers take notice though for that exact reason – they know he has contacts in the industry. what the actual impact of this would be is harder to know, but i doubt it'd have much of an effect

makes me wonder how transparent list managers are with others when talking about draft order and who they're targeting with respective picks

The idea that the Great Cal Twomey has the ability to influence 4 or 5 full time professional staff members who work in recruitment at each club with his own musings is staggering - let alone that he would somehow choose to use that to influence where kids get picked.

If the draft is genuinely as shallow as some claim then yep - use these low picks other won’t use to bid on McCabe (and maybe Dear).

McCabe has been on everyone’s radar all year, played Nationals, done well. So he will definitely get picked up.

Dear has improved off a very low base to become a potential draftee. Good on him for sure. BUT

A state combine invitation is only a sign you might get picked up late / rookied.

Finn Maginness went to the National combine after not getting into the 30 player state Academy. That was based on a very solid u18 year from the start, which saw him play 4 games for Vic Metro. He ended up smashing the endurance testing and we picked him up.

Calsher didn’t make Metro at all, and he’s just been added to the state combine because more than one club have asked him to test. That’s it.

It will be due to him playing well in finals, not because Cal Twomey says he is something these recruiters don’t see.

Joined in 2019, you in 2021. How smart are you?
Anyway all good, I just thought the big macho accounts sending everyone to the PSD were funny.
You seem to be getting upset, so no more replies to you. Seat belts are on for next week.
We shall see!

At this stage media reports say the HFC is asking for a second round pick. So I’d say that’s more on line with what I think is fair for Kosi.

I know there have been rumours, but far out a LOT must have changed for Calsher Dear to suddenly be a tip 30 or 40 pick as has been suggested.

Personally, I rate his upside. But would a club outside of Hawthorn be ready to label him a top 40 prospect in the country all of a sudden?

I hope not. I like what I've seen from his development, and I hope we take him late or add him as a rookie to see where or goes in an elite program.

It is the unknown with Cal that makes him such a tantalising prospect! Everyone knows he didn’t play much jnr footy due to dads health.

So everyone is wondering what if he is better than we think.

Wow hasn’t this thread gone downhill? To the minority in regards to kosi and Brockman, I’ll quote the stones:
“We can’t always get what we want”

What we do get we can use, for other trades and or pick matching. Which is way better than having a sook and getting nothing by sending them to the PSD.

So it’s time to put the toys back in the cot and sooking about what if’s, life is too short for that shit

11 days left and 260 pages to fill to get to 1000

We’ll get there by Wednesday
I think to make it a bit more fun, we keep a record of the most ludicrously over-the-top suggestions for how we get pick one from WCE.

Here's my clubhouse leader...

Assuming the Roos get pick 3 compo, how about Scrimma, Frost and Pick 4 for pick 2

Trade Kosi to Melbourne for 24

We then on trade 2, Brockman and 24 to the Eagles for 1

So, Brockman, Frost, Scrimshaw, Kosi AND Pick 3...for Pick 1

Post your suggestions here, and then at least we can discuss which poster has lost the plot more...

If we dont get offered fair compensation, then we can set the PSD up to suit ourselves. Pick 3 may land us someone of interest.
