I mean you don't have to, I know they want options, but yes I like the idea of 1 allrounder. Marsh is batting well enough at the moment to pass as a batsman and Maxwell as the allrounder, but we are a batsman light thanks to their ridiculous notion that they need to carry 3 allrounders. This is all in spite of the evidence over the last 6 years of Marcus Stoinis being a List A cricketer at best with his average below 20 and bowling average above 45. The luckiest man to have played cricket for Australia.
I am all in favour of dropping one.
Only Carey and Green in the squad. And I want Carey punting the shittruck Inglis.

For whom? He's going to be more productive at 4 than anyone else we have. After many years we've finally found Marsh's schtick, I don't know why we'd move from it. He is a game changer in this role.

Our tournament will ride on Warner, Head and Marsh getting heavy runs at high pace at the top of the innings and getting bibs and bobs from the others. There's going to be times when we lose early wickets and Smith will have an important role to play as more of that anchor type.

If he’s at 4 I’d easily play Green. If you want Marsh at 3 wouldn’t play Smith least Green can bowl. Our middle order has been pathetic for a few years. Maxwell is half fit at best, Stoinis is terrible. Do feel Abbott should be in for Haze, he’d be as good with the bat but lengthens the batting

Pretty fair point, only one you could maybe excuse was maxwell who was sent out there to basically tee off from ball one and messed it up.
Will still be enough but they are minimum 35-40 shorter than what they should have made, probably more
I agree, Maxwell (who I have huge reservations) at least went out with intent. Inglis gets a pass for the same reason. The rest can all gf. Marsh and Warner could be the miracle that gets us over but otherwise a horrendous batting fail.

There’s intent and being dumb. Maxwell was the latter one.

How did Matt Short miss out, surely his a better one day batter than Stoinis and Labuschagne

Should be in the side but he’s an opener. We missed a trick there as he’d literally be the most like for like for Head as he bowls spin

Ashton Turner has been a great finisher for the Scorchers but I've never seen him do it for Australia.

Stoinis and Tim David look like great finishers in the BBL too but there is a big difference between the BBL and international cricket.
You haven't seen him in Australian colours because he doesn't play for NSW. If he did he'd be a fixture in this team and probably captaining it.

Marcus over Inglis?
You're an imbecile.
10 One day matches in the last month. Before today.

Marnus: 358 @ 39.8
Inglis (9 matches) : 213 @ 23.7

Inglis averaging 19 from his 11 ODIs. Marnus averaging 45 from his 15 in 2023.
Please. You throw around an insult, and for what.. Defending Josh ****ing Inglis.

This is why Maxwell not giving himself 6 balls was silly.

It was absolutely horrible from Maxy, one of the dumbest shots I've seen; arrogantly wasted what the openers had earned.

I've been a pretty big advocate for Maxwell but that was awful - hopefully he puts in another good shift with the ball, could go a fair way to redeeming his batting hubris.

I vaguely remember him having a very good series a number of years ago, I think on the subcontinent, where he was an awesome finisher. Not sure why we didn't stick with him.

Won a one dayer in India of his own bat chasing down 340+. I can’t be bothered looking it up

Against India just before last World Cup

Just lost form at the wrong time. Had an absolute stinker of a season at Domestic level when he was on the verge of selection. Got injured at some stage around then too. He's only 30, still time for him and he's definitely one they should be looking at.

Unless we are thinking Head I’d honestly bite the bullet and give Turner the captaincy.

Except he shouldn’t have, should he, as he has clearly, statistically, been the best performed ODI batsman in the side in that time
Look, I understand as a Geelong supporter you are used to athletes playing well past their prime. I just feel he won’t ever make us any better, and we’re better off giving a younger batsman with upside a chance to flourish and with time improve our side so we can be competitive against the likes of India and England
