What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Just ignore Doc in this one, people can change their votes, and we’ll put him up for selection in the mids?

Or re-do it? Either starting with the defenders again or jumping straight to the mids?

What do the people want?…

He’s currently our 6th highest voted player, but some people obviously didn’t vote for him here as they wanted him in the middle.

I’m open to suggestions.
Thanks for asking us. I'm for redoing the def vote. Put Doc in the midst.

Wondering, if all our mids are on the park and Doc is playing through the middle, will Hewett play as a defender and or will Walsh or Cerra take a wing spot

Hewett Weitering McGovern
Williams Young Saad

Acres Cripps Cerra
Pittonet Walsh Doc

Durdin C. Curnow Martin
TDK McKay Motlop

Newman Kennedy Fisher Jsos/Kemp or whoever

Maybe have him as a duel player in both categories, then leave him in the one he votes the most in, promote the next best player in line which he is taken out of…

McGovern was a forward, until Voss arrived and earmarked him as a defender last preseason. Fisher was a deep forward, shifted further up the ground. Young targeted as a defender, after Bevo played him forward and ruck

Now, it seems Voss wants Doc training with the midfield group, going by Weiterings comments

And, there will be other positional changes

Doc as mid only if Boyd or Cowan can play in defence

Otherwise, they’ll get Plowman to lockdown a small fwd - yikes!

Why Hewett? He has been a great addition to our midfield

Played there for a while with the Swans in 2021 and shutdown some very good small/mid size forwards. I agree, I prefer him in the middle.

If Doc plays through middle, and with Boyd out for a while, we do need one more medium defender

Newman/Hewett Weitering Gov
Williams Young Saad

Backup - Plowman, Marchbank, Durdin, Cowan

Will be interesting to see what we do

Kemp also a possibility

Yeh because Plowman has such a terrible record on dangerous small forwards like Papley, Cameron & Walters etc... oh wait...
I like to think that we’ve gone past him. Handy backup but not in best 22

He's doing the preseason as a mid, so I'd say he's already not.

Doc could be training with the mids to fill in for Walsh for 4 to 10 weeks(however long he's out). He can easily slide back to his AA position in defense once Walshy returns.

To CJMB i'd leave it as is, as this exercise assumes we are full strength.

Id just about bet my house that Hewett will not be playing back this year or any other while at Carlton. He was bordering on AA level all of last year and was our most reliable midfielder. If he plays the last month of the year we probably make finals such is his impact on ball.

The only reason Doc is being looked at through the middle is because he can provide some pace to an otherwise one paced midfield while also being great defensively. Doubt he's anything more than a minor rotation once Walsh returns, just an option for when we come against the zippy midfielders who have troubled us in the past like Bolton . Nullifies their ability to spread from our inside behemoths and allows Cripps etc to play with an offensive license.

Either way Cowan and Marchbank would be better fits than Hewett for us down back. We lack interceptors and players with the ability to rebound quickly, Hewett's strengths as a backman don't provide either

This is a tough one because there are 9 players you would like to have in that backline.

Questions are will we go tall and play Marchbank and McGovern on the flanks as we did towards the end of the year.

Do we play Docherty in the midfield? We can afford to because we have a wealth of depth with small defenders. Boyd, Newman, Williams and Saad. Particularly if we go tall which I think we will.

Docherty is an AA defender but was very good on the ball at the back end of the season.

Then there is youth. Does Cowan and/or Kemp put their hand up to play this season?

Either way, with all players fit, there will be two very good players in the reserves and even more solid ones.

He's doing the preseason as a mid, so I'd say he's already not.
I mean he also knows defensive systems backwards at this point and appears to be actively assisting Cowan in learning them, so while we're tooling him up in stoppage and midfield strategy, he could just as easily play defence in round 1.

I still think his best position is in defence, and that's where I'm happy to pick him.

FB: Newman Weitering McGovern
HB: Williams Young Saad
7th: Marchbank

Would have loved Boyd in there, sue to his dash, tenacity and foot skills, but injured.

Doc needed further up the ground to cover Walsh and Cottrell.

Plowman is now depth.

Cowan to develop in the VFL.

If you want Boyd in, you can do it here.
This exercise assumes all are fit and raring to go.
Same applies for Walsh etc …
