Yeah it’s an absolute pisstake, but it’s not out of the ordinary for them. Franklin was captain one year, Hawkins last year, Rance at one stage.

This is on another level though, a bloke with over 20 tribunal charges, 40k in fines, 6 week suspension for attacking an umpire, repeated eye-gouging incidents. The bloke is one of the worst people in the game, has never displayed a single postive leadership trait in his career.

Good way to get tongues wagging atleast, which is what I'm sure the panel was going for.

No one cares because the captain of the AA team year in year out is a joke

Larkey should've been FP
Greene should be pushed up to HFF to open up that spot for Larkey
N.Daicos should go to the wing
J.Daicos should go to the bench

Then Ill leave it for you to argue which 1 of Rozee, Merrett or Serong plays Rover, and which 2 are on the pine.

Cool. Still didn't kick goals.

Yes. One kicked over double the goals of the other.
Peter Wright going down with injury Kyle Langford played as the main target in Essendon's forward line.
Martin was not Richmond's main target and played more of a true half-forward flank. he also competed with another handy player called Shai Bolton for goals.

"Attacking" an umpire. Turn it up.

Let's just make the AA forward line Curnow, Walker, Larkey, Greene, Allen and Cameron then, shall we?

It would be better than fitting in a mid forward with 25 goals. Forwards need to kick goals, there’s more of a case for Langford as that HFF, but they always put the next two mids that play some forward time there. Martin needed 40+ goals to be a chance

And?

Can’t be too good. Between him and Beveridge (and I’m not knocking Bontempelli’s ‘leadership by example’ just his ability to actually get his side reaching its potential) they’ve conspired to have a top four worthy squad miss the finals altogether.

Think you’ll find in a player voter award a fair degree of it is looking at a captain and judging them on how much effort they put in - an area in which you can’t fault him.
You thinking we have a top four squad shows you don’t know a lot about football. We’ve got the best, best players, but we’ve probably also got bottom four level players in our best 22 as well.

Averaged 23 possessions asca forward, most contested possessions as a forward.

Steve Johnson had a season where he averaged 2.2 goals a game, 23 possessions a game, and 1.3 goal assists a game and didn’t make the AA team. And he tackled more often. Yet when those sorts of numbers get brought up in other threads like the stupid Martin GOAT thread they just get shrugged off.

did he miss many games with suspension/injury?

Two seasons ago you were dictating terms in a grand final.
I don’t disagree that you have a gap between the top and bottom groups of players - and as someone who followed a side often suffering a similar affliction I have seen it many times - but you’re underperforming. That’s indisputable. I don’t think he is a BAD captain because clearly one of the primary aspects of being a good leader is doing the hard work and ripping in and setting the example which he does from start to finish every week.
But whatever he’s doing it’s not helping them get the best out of themselves

I don’t think the same can be said of the Giants.

Also - On the umpire front.
I hate they announce it now.

How would it look if the AA Goal Umpire has a scoring error in the next 3 weeks. He wont be in the GF. But he'll be AA.

Makes zero sense.

I'd rather nothing, then a week after the season, release a press statement for who the AA umps are. Heck, you could just go with the GF Panel.

I would have Weitering ahead of Wilkie and Moore

Definitely not Wilkie- a good reason the Saints came 6th was their no1 ranked defence and Wilkie is the main man there.

Plenty of sides play with 3 tall forwards but not 4.

Breust, Elliot, Papley, Rankine, Higgins, Fritsch, Pickett, Weightman, Butler, Schultz, Walters, Bolton, Heeney, Riccardi, Powell-Pepper, Petracca, Rioli, Stengle, Bailey, Frederick and Stephenson did all score more goals than Martin too though.

You know what helps getting into the All Australian team as a forward? Kicking goals.
