It begins..
I'd be surprised if it's true about one year for Acres though, at the start of the year that was probably what it was looking like but I would have thought two years would be on the table by now.
List management wise that would seem to make sense, two years at average coin would let both sides see if Acres can sustain the performance and potentially earn a better deal, and if not see if O'Driscoll, Henry, Johnson and co. coming through might push him out.

Club has finally announced Colyer's extension. Weird that it didn't come from them in the first place.

Bring him in as a forwards coach then alongside Graham. Problem solved

haha, was thinking this.

bringing buddy in will mean he can only be the top dog - how will he fit into the team ethos and is it worth delaying development of our young KPFs?

Please tell me that he’s not also managed by Colin Young….

Of course he is. Acres is listed under the clients of McDougall (Young's protege) on their website.

Blake Acres should be hitting up West Coast for a long term deal offer. If he didn't I'd give him a big hug and then smack him on the chest because loyalty and $5.50 will get you a happy meal and nobody is paying you once your career is over.

If there's satisfaction in potentially having some success that is worth something, but so is job security and maximising income so you can sit on your dad's boat four days a year during your thirties.

And dogs are expensive.

Are you on WC's payroll? You keep suggesting them to poach our players haha

Why would you leave a team that’s going to be contending for a few years yet to a team thats just starting a rebuild for a little bit more coin, not everyone is about the money.

Lachy Reid mentioned on Triple M this morning that Acres has received an offer from Freo that's below expectation.

He also seems to think that we're in the frame for both Jackson AND Brayshaw.

There's definitely some clearing of cap space going on to either land both, or to land Jackson and somehow retain Lobb for next year.

It’s a player manager job to maximise their clients contracts. Part of that involves leaks to the media that the contract is unders to drive up the value. Bell and Walls aren’t stupid. External talk will have no impact on them.
On Acres if he was to leave the last 6 weeks have shown we can play without him. I don’t want him to but 1/2 a season doesn’t make a career.

I had to google how much a happy meal costs because in my head it was $3 and another 30c for a soft serve cone with babushka.

How can I be both coaching North next year and fixing West Coast's list? I like problem solving and West Coast has a lot of solving to do.

I'd expect Acres could earn $500,000 more over his remaining career going to WCE on a four year deal.

Acres, like Schultz, still plays a role that should someone else bring ever so slightly more athletically or skillfully to the table they find themselves on the outer.

Schutlz might be one of our cleanest players below his knees running full speed picking up a ball bouncing at him because the target was missed, he works really hard and pressures well, he is a good mark for his size too - now imagine we draft a player who does that but also runs faster and has a laser targeted kick. Now it's a choice between the two.

Same for Blake. Big bodied, hard running winger that isn't particularly quick and isn't a particularly good kick but works really hard and wins a one on one more than a smaller winger. If we draft a player of similar frame but faster, maybe a left footer, and now it's a choice.

I want them both in my team this week, but both will know that there are players out there who will work just as hard and some will have traits that they can't match that's coming for their spot.

Most footballers live in this reality, it's not just them, but it's why I'm never upset with guys who choose security and money over a club trying to leverage loyalty and success.

But I also want Freo to leverage success and loyalty to sign them as cheap as possible.

Alright, breaking news time. Darcy Tucker's partner is back in Melbourne and I'm not sure she is coming back. Tucker is contracted for next season.

Joel Hamling is being talked about as being chased by the Dogs again, he is also contracted for next season.

If we traded 5th round picks for these two players, but it gave us the money to retain Logue et al, does it matter that we are losing contracted assets?

Tucker's played his 100 games so we have dibs on recruiting his kids. I like him as a player but I like others more.

If (and it's a big if) Tucker and Hamling were to leave it would not cause any huge problems and if their wages helped keep Louge, or others who may be looking for a pay rise, it could be a positive.

Fun fact: if you order 100 soft serve cones from McDonalds they're legally obligated to show you how they're made.
