Keeler is one I just can’t get my head around being a first round prospect.

Still very, very raw and not an obvious position for him at AFL level.

Does have a bit of Leek Aleer about him though. One club would be happy to take him on the basis of his athletic profile and the few things he does do well are elite.

Anyone closer to the draft rules and logic than me appreciate if you can help me understand why crows didn’t nominate keeler I.e what’s the downside?
They could have nominated to take him as a rookie at least, which means if he goes undrafted he can go on the Crows cat b rookie list.

They must have others higher up on their board and think he'll at least get drafted.

That all makes sense but still nominating sounds like a no lose option why not nominate then simply don’t match if a bid comes? If he went I drafted surely aby club would be happy with him as a cat B rookie but again seems like you aren’t obligated to do that either

It looks like they just don't rate any potential.

Not a rumour but a question. What is with the lack of "Road to the Draft" podcasts. Used to be one a week but the last Road to the Draft podcast was 3 weeks ago and there seem to be more gaps than there used to be.
Super annoying. Twomey being a campaigner. Seems like they have swapped the podcast for the Facebook live sessions with Nat edwards

Yeah seems to have stopped in favour of the weekly 10 min Q&A of the afl website. AFL exchange ended too but won’t miss that since Mitch Cleary left. Sarah Ollie was totally lost when not talking swans and answered every question with a swans answer so it really fell away, despite it being fairly average to begin with.

it's also funny how pretty much every draft watcher has Darcy Jones as a mid/late second, yet BigFooty rates him a top-10 pick.

I'd be happy to get him, but he's 174cm and barely 65kgs. That's not a frame that holds up as a midfielder. Even Shai Bolton is a whole 10kgs heavier, and he still can get worried out of it with consistent contact in the guts. He'll be a wing/small forward at the next level and a lot of his current skillset is focused as a stoppage midfielder. He's got a brilliant upside, but there's a reason he's outside most people's top 20.

Shai Bolton was 67kg when drafted. It's not inconceivable Jones puts on sufficient weight in a professional environment.

AFL Media sacked half their staff and now Twomey has to do real work.

I hope he comes to hawthorn my dream is to work for the hawks but couldn’t see how my skill set aligned with their needs. Putting on weight quickly, I’m your man! And wi to big Monky gone there’s clearly an opening…

MFC have 13. If one of the players on our board in that pick range is still there at 19 we could trade a F1st to get him. We currently have 2, ours and Freos.
No way I’d be giving up 13 in a strong draft for 19 our f2 and a 2022 late pick would be my offer but if that’s what dees want then no one will be able to match it. Dees in a strong position to compete for some time with that 2023 hand although will be interesting to see what the fringe players do if they aren’t getting games notably van rooyen and Laurie.

think he meant after you picked 13 and if you have multiple players on target at 13, one of whom is available at 19, then you would offer F1 in exchange for 19( which become 21).

from Hawks side, I would offer our F2 & F3 for 19 & ask to swap 31 with our 41.

I m sure if Davey is on board, dons are offering 22(24) & their F3 for 19/21, maybe more.

Yeah I understood what he meant, all I am saying is that I wouldn’t be giving up that early a pick regardless in a stronger draft. you are essentially saying this years 13 i.e where you ranked the player to take at 19, is better than next years 13 and that could be right but more likely not.
Not sure your deal works for me. under that scenario we have 6,19,24,31,48,50, 52,65 so expect we clear 48,50,52 for lions 36 which comes into 34 so end up with 6,19,24,31,34 with 65 (vickery / Lawrence). But that means 2023 is 6,30,71. If it was 19 for our f2 plus 1-2 later picks for their academy picks and left enough to get 36(34) from lions then I’m more interested. Would then be something like 6,19,24,34,48,65 and 6,30,44,71
Next year. Keen to hold a 40s pick which comes in about 5 spots as think someone slides like a D’aloia or lemmey that would be a nice addition.

Melbourne do not hold pick 13 in the 2023 draft.

The hold their own future first round pick, and Fremantle's future first round pick. Both picks could be in the last 4 picks of the first round next draft. i.e some where in the 15 to 18 range.

It's fair to say that Brayden George looked like a top 10 pick this year, before his ACL injury. What's better than having one Petracca? Having two.

Or Lewis Hayes might slip. Or Olli Hotton fills a need.

Melbourne might back themselves in to win it all again next year, and getting a kid in a year early keeps them in the window longer, if he's peaking when a current key player is ready to retire.

Yeah obviously the pick number is a guess and all you said is right, but my opinion is I wouldn’t do it. As I said, I could be wrong about that and if George I would probably do it, so not an exact science. Anyway screw Melbourne and their bounty of picks I hope they make bad calls and hopefully in our direction!

Players do slide though - Brodie Grundy for example, Dev Robinson, Chad Warner, Jack Darling.
Sometimes it's BFrating players higher than clubland, other times it's a 'personality' issue (e.g. Grundy, Darling, potentially Phillipou this year is Rendell is to be believed)
Chad Warner didn’t slide, that’s about where most clubs rated him, some had him further back. Same with robertson, a lot saw him a mid teens pick at best due to his kicking.
