Essendon will probably take Philipou, they'll want a big bodied mid who can go forward
From the attitude issues I’m hearing, I’d honestly pass on Philipou at 16, in preference for the other mids, Hayes or Cowan.

Could become a jet, but I’d rather he play for someone else. Has Mitch Thorp or Daniel Connors vibes about him

I tend to agree with you. I really rate Phillipou as a top 5 talent but it appears there is an attitude problem, probably a good fit for Essendon

Ideal Prospects

Lewis Hayes:
Hayes firms as a prospect that is likely to still be on the board come Collingwood's opening selection at Pick 16 - which will be pushed back one or two places in the queue after earlier father-son bids.

An exciting tall defensive option, standing at 199cm and offering stellar intercept and disposal attributes, Hayes is in conversations as a first-round option following a strong campaign for the Eastern Ranges and at the National Championships level with Vic Metro.

In a dream scenario for the Magpies, East Perth young gun Jedd Busslinger would slide to their opening selection. Should the Magpies look for another area to improve with their earliest pick, then Josh Weddle and James Van Es are options for their pair of second-round selections that can add height to Craig McRae's rearguard.

WA duo Jed Adams and Hugh Davies, along with Allies prospect Tom McCallum, are further tall defensive options the Magpies could consider at the back end of the draft.

Jaxon Binns:
When assessing wing options that won't demand a first-round pick from the Magpies, Dandenong Stingrays' talent Jaxon Binns is placed as a valuable running option for the second night of the National Draft.

While he doesn't possess the pace seen in most natural wingmen, Binns boasts an elite aerobic capacity that sees his astute work rate last until the end of the game.

A strong wing option that can play a multitude of positions is Western Australian Ed Allan, who may fall in the first round, while Bendigo Pioneers utility Jason Gilbee could slip into the top 30.

Isaac Keeler:
The door is open for clubs to swoop on the Adelaide Next Generation Academy prospect after the Crows opted against nominating Keeler ahead of the draft.

The club's decision comes as Keeler firms as a late first-round to early second-round selection, meaning the North Adelaide ruck-forward will be out of their reach for a matching bid.

Keeler is a leading option for clubs keen on adding exciting talent that can feature as a focal point of their forward line while also pinch-hitting in the ruck. The Pies will be hopeful that Keeler slides to their second selection at Pick 25, or third at 27th overall.

SA teammate Phoenix Foster is another flexible key-position prospect the Magpies could consider at the later stages of the draft.

Somewhat bizarre take on our needs IMO.
Yes KPD is a need. Everyone knows that.

But an outside wingman??!?!?

Its been shown that 'outside' players are not what we're about.
If the contest work isn't there, then you won't last long on the list in this new regime.
see: Poulter (and to a degree, Murley).

We only have about 10 players that can play wing....so why would we burn a top 30 pick on an 'outside' player who can run?
WHE (and possibly Bianco) will provide 'that outside run' and if we are to have a good year....WHE is not in the team come end of the season (due to growth of others).
So adding another outside runner just doesn't fit our list or gamestyle (this year at least).

I really rate him too, but out of our reach.
What's the attitude problem with Phillipou??

Blokes got the potential to be a deadset gun 🔫.

From all reports he’s a got a bit of figjam about him. Might be absolute arrogance or it could simply be personal drive/belief in the pursuit of excellence.

Either way once in an afl environment, particularly around the coaches we have, I’m pretty sure he’d adopt the right approach.

I don’t think Hine would be able to spit his name out quick enough in the one in a million chance he slid to our pick.

I'm just going off what others have said. It appears more confidence than attitude, he's a bit cocky but that's a good thing sometimes

He's a good player Phillipou but Jack Redden good and would you be disappointed missing out on Jack Redden?
A 263 game premiership mid from pick 16 would be pretty handy.

There are similarities with height, type, S.A boys & yes I would be dissapointed on missing out on any player who turns out to be a 250+ game player as Redden is.
Especially as many players selected will ultimately not make it in the big league historically regardless of our opinions of them.

Franklin had FIGJAM about him, as well and actually took calls during his interviews.
So it's a bit 50/50 here, but an excellent talent like Phillipou maybe worth the punt as you suggest.

Corn Francis also had a Figjam complex, yet this didn't stop him going #1 or stop both S.A clubs & the Tigers throwing a gluten of high end picks both present and future @ Nth to try & secure pick one for Francis.
Bet Nth wish they took the offers in 21 in hindsight.

It was a truly bizarre comment. The Judd, Hodge superdraft may have had 16 blokes who had better careers than Redden, but every other year, Jack Redden at pick 16 would have been an outstanding outcome.

I re-read the comment and it was phrased as a question rather then a statement. As in would you be disappointed with Redden at pick 16? Weirdly worded though. The answer being hell no.

It was, but a reasonable comparison type wise.
Maybe it's an omen with him going at pick 16.
263 games, we could only be so fortunate with pick 16 (EFA)

Isnt just that he rates himself a bit? Ie take himself at pick 1 etc?

He's hung up the boots.
:thumbsu: Redden had a solid year too, something most West Coast players couldn't attest too.
His stats show he played 21 games, averaged 22 disposals & finished 6th in the Weagles B&F in what admittedly was a very ordinary side.
Finished the year with 25 disposals & 8 marks against Geelong, also had 27 disposals & 15 marks Vr's the Tigers in round 7.
Just read he is returning to SA to play with his Bros.
