We've got 4 picks. I can't imagine the first not simply being Hine's best available - regardless of position.

Hine is not risk averse in his selections and I would be backing the ACL kid to be our choice, if he's still available.

George is a bit of an excitement machine, but that knee

I'd narrow it down to just agility. Although with Scully, also whether they think he will bulk up.

It would be to his advantage if he was able to jump a bit higher than he does, bit flat footed

A lot of the videos of draftees on YouTube are just compilations of every touch they had in a particular game, so they're a lot less flattering than a typical highlights video.

The risk with him was his general application and fitness. It took him nearly a full year to get a debut and he was completely cooked after a quarter of footy at AFL level.

Scully and Lemmey will be an easy call for reruiters.

Sure they are tall and can mark on a lead and kick reasonably well.

What will make or break them is:
- Can they get separation on the lead (Combine sprint results)
- Can they turn 'on a dime' or do they have the turning circle of a mack truck (Combine agility test)
- Can they repeat sprint or are they one trick ponies [lead, mark, goal]. It's easy to be a one-man target in U18 and get the ball evey time you lead. In the AFL you need to string multiple leads together because you are not rewarded every time.

IMO Scully will stuggle if he makes it to the AFL. I don't believe he has AFL level separation and I don't think he has multiple avenues to goal in him (apart from marking). Hopefully I'm wrong because I hate writing off any young player.

Lemmey I am unsure on as I don't have access to testing results. If he tests well then I would take a punt on him with a 2nd rounder onwards.

Scully has great lateral movement and ground skills for his height (201cm) that is evident even in his highlights where a few of his goals are crumbing stepping around and breaking from opponents to snap.

I'm not using risk as a negative, I hope we go for the blue sky of George and select him if he's available. I was just pointing out that Dekka isn't conservative. But some of your claims of not a risk are absurd - a deaf kid in an age where leaders are regularly seen shouting out onfield instructions to organise the team's fluid defensive structures, who had also missed his final year of U18s due to injury, so also didn't really have any runs on the board, and whilst I'm talking about runs, I won't mention his ability to run - not a risk becasue he's a KPP????????

Interesting rumours. I have some scouting mail that I have sourced myself and they support your findings which are very useful!

• Busslinger rumour is new, although when I was crafting a phantom draft weeks ago, I had him at that mark. He's a KPP and Geelong would be eager to lure in a young backman. They'll have done their homework on his go home prospects. If Clark hates his new side, they can always target him in 2024.
• Your top five seems accurate. GWS will take Cadman. It's whether they bid on Ashcroft or not. For me, I hope they bid because the Lions need to pay a fair price for top tier talent.
• Phillipou said, in an interview with Fox, he'd take himself as the number one selection. Not the worst crime but could indicate poor, self-centred character. If he's available, then I don't see why we shouldn't take him. Character is turning into a very important selection criterion as clubs don't want idiotic kids who do a De Goey on holiday in Bali. Whether or not JDG did anything wrong is up for debate, but the point is he still brought unwanted, media attention that no other player managed to whilst on holidays there.
• Carlton take Hollands or Hayes - I've heard both rumours.
• It makes sense for St Kilda to take the kid they've developed - he's in their system.

One of our ITK posters indicated 'red flags' regarding Phillipou back on the 28/08, and that we wouldn't be targeting him.

I love a bit of confidence with the kids coming through as well, but perhaps it's a fine line in some cases.

If we miss out on Hayes/Keeler or Lemmey, I'm starting to warm to Scully. 50 goals for the season and he is a really strong mark. He looks like he could use a couple of years on the skipping rope to help improve his agility and spring. There are plenty of knocks on him and I find him a bit hard to assess. do we just bite the bullet and take him with our third pick if he's available? At worst he could become a Casboult type with a bit of weight on him

I like the H's in this draft. After trading Henry, I hope we end up with one of Hewett, Hustwaite or Hotton. It's a shame Hollands will be out of reach as I'm really big on him.

Hayes may not be available at our pick given Carlton are rumoured to be interested at pick 10. They are mulling over him and Hollands.

I beg to differ, it's pea like qualities have had a big impact on his career to date.

All good points but if you look at the past 7 Collingwood drafts, there was only one opportunity to draft a key forward. And we cocked it up by selecting Stephenson instead of Naughton.

This 2022 draft, while it may be considered weak it depth, I think this actually helps our position with our pick in the teens and in the 20s. While the premium key position players Cadman, Jefferson, Buslinger, Weedle are probably gone by our pick, I really like the secondary options like Hayes, Hustwaite, Keeler, Gruzewski. And someone like Van Es who starred at the combine, will probably shoot up the draft board to the 2nd round. I think we going to get a good player if we a brave enough to select one or two of these key position players.

to be fair, most people thought we hit the jackpot with Stevo especially after his Rising Star win.
And Naughton was pegged as a KPD rather than key forward. We already had Moore, Roughie and Howe at the time.
