Not sure how I feel about this. Does anyone rate him? Hard to tell from his stint at Carlton.

Surely a "director of coaching" aspirant needs to have experienced some success as a senior coach in their CV, preferably as a premiership coach, in order to even be considered.

It would a bit difficult to exercise oversight of coaching for a successful team when you've never really done it yourself or even know what it looks like on a personal level. Filling in for Clarko for five games in a team that was basically able to coach itself at that stage doesn't qualify imo.

Is that for the Hawthorn that finished 15th and 14th during his tenure in the role?

You'd also have to question the scope of the role, as I'd imagine that he wasn't tasked with much in the way of providing oversight or guidance/coaching to Clarkson (or Mitchell for that matter) over 2020-2021.

My point still stands - I don't think he is qualified for the role in any way, shape or form.

Hawthorn are a successful club, built on a winning culture. They are a benchmark of what teams stride to be. The last two year, give me a spell mate, They're rebuilding and they still pulled great performances out this year. They never have issues. They don't just hire blokes for the sake of it.

Hocking has got his own team in SA and the way the Buckley kicked him out but kept Sanderson ect because Hocking actually challenged him and club did nothing about it... was disgusting. Hocking was a massive part of why we got to the GF. I'd love him back.

VFL got canceled and Hocking as the Coach of the team lost his job, like so many other Coaches during COVID.

Buckley didn’t kick him out.

Where exactly is his experience in shepherding an inexperienced coaching group, or even having success himself as a senior coach? How much oversight of and guidance / coaching support for Clarko and Mitchell would have been within his remit over the past two years? Did he suddenly develop the ability and level of expertise from his own senior coaching endeavours to oversee and guide the coach who taught him everything he knows?

This fluff about him coming from Hawthorn and being in a "winning culture" doesn't parlay itself into actually bringing the necessary level of experience and expertise in coaching a successful team that we really need from this appointment.

If you wanted to hire him as an assistant then fine, go for it, but not as our director of coaching. We need people who have experienced success on a personal level themselves as a senior coach, not someone who's been part of someone else's team (and who couldn't get the job done themselves as senior coach when given the opportunity).

Had to find a whole for him somewhere back in the fold after carlton gave him the arse

Chris Scott is an awful coach.. I can't believe he's still at Geelong to be honest.. after all these yrs.

Got lucky in year #1 after inheriting Bombers Cats and with by some accounts dubious coaching by his rival in the GF... after that its been not so great...for 10 whole years.. high ladder finishes but no flag...

The Age article suggested we're interested in getting a younger assistant in given the ages of McRae, Leppitsch and Bolton.

Any blokes recently out of playing that would be a good fit as a young coach? Wouldn't mind someone along the lines of Eddie Betts coming along if he wants to coach.

Our stoppage work hasn’t been the same since he left.

I’ve heard there’s some big wraps on Burgoyne as a potential assistant now he’s hung up the boots. Would prefer experienced assistants on all lines though tbh

If Cats don’t win the flag (can’t see it happening) reckon the Blooze will go all out after him.

Pulling in the reins on the players.. can't understand for the life why coaches do it.. and expect results.. ****ing bizzare. History is against em.. and they still do it.

He wants to involved with bring indigenous kids through the system. Hawks have a role there I think but clubs are asking him to come to theres.

If we got Burgoyne.. That would just be icing.
