Sorry if this has been asked but what difference are we looking at between Mckenzie and Clarke , if it came to picking between the 2 ?

Mackenzie: Burst from stoppage.
Great delivery inside 50.
Link up 1-2s and can change angles.
Improvement has been rapid. Scope for more.
Hawthorn supporter.

Clark: Pure footballer.
Strong leadership.
Win at all costs mindset.
Jack of all trades despite lacking any genuine athletic gift

Mckenzie is lot faster, better endurance and a better kick. Clark has limited athletic ability but hard as a cats head and knows how to play football.

Just on that you would take Mackenzie.

MacKenzie for me. We need players who can spread and break away from stoppages/centre bounces.

And that can kick the ball cleanly and hit up forward targets.

Clark doesn't seem to be that kind of player. He's got they hard edge and competiveness, but he isn't a good kick from what I have seen. Plus he doesn't have that same level of athleticism either.

We brought in Stephens, who is another big contested mid not known for his break away speed nor skills.

We now have him, Finn and Nash who are big bodies midfielders. Worpel and Newcombe too. We need the class in the midfield now.

This is such bullshit. The AFL is such an unprofessional organisation that we have no actual idea what the rules are around this. I also see that they are already looking at closing down the Bowes loophole.....

You close the loophole by making the club doing the salary dumping sell to the highest bidder. If the player doesn't like it then they stay on the list or get traded another way.

Keeler and Munkara could go anywhere from 12-40. Exciting prospects with questionable application. Don’t mind if we take a punt on one of them. We need more X factor.

Keeler is a tough on that intrigues me. Doesn't have the junior goal scoring dominance. Not a great rate of improvement. I haven't seen any mongrel.

Yet obviously a great athlete and great skills for the frame. How high can you justify him based on some good midfield-like work when playing through the ruck? I think he's too speculative for the Hawks first 2 selections.

I was thinking if we get one of the Lions 2nd rounders I would be tempted. Pick 24 may be too early/risky.

**** i am beyond excited, like the most excited i've been ever.

Tbf i didn't experience the ones in the early 2000s with Roughy, Buddy & Hodge so it makes sense.

But the fact we literally cannot miss with our pick and that we can get one of Clark or MacKenzie who i both rate ridiculously highly.

Clark is such a good fit because he'll take the midfield on his shoulders and give 110% effort, offensively and defensively, jack of all trades, knows how to play ****ing footy and is a very very good leader, a lack of athletic ability hasn't stopped him and he just loves it, his attack of the footy in the air aswell for someone who is a small mid, is great.

MacKenzie is class, he's my pick, genuine beast around stoppages and doesn't care who's infront of him, he'll grab it and find a way around, he hits the ball at speed and his ability to attract and dish off the ball by hand is top class, so he's very good on the inside but his outside ability with break away speed and a very good kick, in just placing it perfectly for the receiver.

He reminds me alot of Mundy & Pendlebury, but he has genuine explosive and top line speed, it's exciting.

MacKenzie is my pick, sounds just like what we need.

Also, I'm intrigued by the idea of having a midfield containing Nuke, Ward, Finn, Stephens and MacKenzie all being Hawks supporters. Hopefully can chuck Sheezel in there in two years time.

Love peoples optimism and agree we get a good player at pick 7 but sheezel was the one for me. The class we now lack the Gunston replacement. I expected we would have at least one if not 2 more picks inside 30 going to miss out on some really good players in the teens. again we rely on our team to pick above expectations that needs to change starting with “at pick 1 the hawthorn football club select Harley Reid from the prophetic clouds of heaven!”

Had some time to watch some champs games and a few that I like are

Clark - I like his tenacity and hardness. He would be a good replacement for Mitchell - seems a bit quicker and more polished on the outside but not as good at ball-winning. Questions marks on how he translates without the size or genuine leg speed.

Darcy Jones - Probably my favourite gettable player in the pool. Love his zip and ability to break away from congestion. Reminds me a bit of Shai Bolton without the overhead ability. His testing is off the charts and he is not shy of winning contested ball or mixing it with the bigger bodies. Will be a forward at the next level. Would suit Sam's high-octane offensive game style. Break lines and breaks away from congestion.

Josh Weddle - Know we don't need another KPD desperately but I think he ends up one of the best ten or so from this draft. Has really good competitiveness, and high-end athleticism but he is a touch under-sized. He gives me Alex Rance vibes (who was also a late first-rounder also).

Ginbey - can not kick to save himself but he is super quick and pretty tough. He can play tall with his jumping ability. He will be a good player at AFL level because of his athletic gifts and ability to win his own footy. For an inside mid he is a bit too fumbly when the ball hits the deck for mine and his kicking is pretty bad.

Did chopflop the First get Perma banned or something?

Regardless, welcome (back?) to the draft board.

Darcy Jones is someone I've come to really like with our second pick. He should be there and, barring any sliders, he provides the most upside of any forward we'll get our hands on. I agree with the Bolton allusions, but the comps I like for him are Stengle and Switowski. He's one that thrives in tight spaces, for such a slight frame he takes contact really well and can usually find a way to Houdini out of a pack and zip off into the sunset. We've got a plethora of small forwards with spark though, one I'd like to see if he goes alright as a third tall is Luke Teal. He's a great runner, cool head, and a brilliant reader of the play which benefits him down back, but could do wonders as a taller half-forward, pushing up the ground for the transition than getting out the back and in front of packs. Probably more of an option for our later picks, but a favorite of mine none the less. And he's a hawks fan, apparently.

Another that I'd love as a second-rounder is Lachie Cowan. If Weddle is your top 10 smokey, Cowan is firmly mine. I know we have a million running-intercepting halfbacks with big boots, but as a Smitty-style wing (something I think we'll lack with Amon and Morrison both being very good but firmly link up, high-skill wingman rather than a big, fast body that's gonna munt that thing 65 meters when we need it), or as an absolute weapon in the guts to give us a bit of mongrel at stoppages who can get a clearance himself. The combination of a quick first step and agility to change directions mid-sprint make him a lively slingshot and a dangerous weapon. If we're talking leadership and character, he's another captain and a very directional leader out of half back. On top of it all, his size and athleticism give him a ton of upside. When you see how well Ginbey and Mackenzie have done after their half-back transitions, I reckon Cowan could have had that if he wasn't so good as a defender in some teams that really relied on his work out of the backline. There in lies his biggest detraction, he's really only been a Sicily for his clubs and we haven't seen him up the ground and in a few more flashy roles. There's also a bit to work on with finding the short option, he's a tad prone to going long and he plays with a strong bias against a chip/mark playstyle. Give him a year at Box Hill rotating through the wing, guts, and halfback, and watch him force his way into our best 18 somewhere. There's every chance he's a first-rounder, but if he's there at 24 he's someone I desperately want us to grab regardless of positional need.
