We were there five to six years ago. We are way ahead of them.

The Ryan story is entirely about the ability of West Coast sponsors to keep stories off the front page they own and the news they also own. Pull your head out of the sand. If Willie Rioli worked for Fremantle he would have been run out of the game for the first breach, let alone the front page news every time he posted on social media about a new smoking apparatus he acquired (which I'm betting most people are finding out about for the first time when they read this, go figure), LET ALONE getting caught with a block of the drug he was banned for in his pants just before he was supposed to come back.
Lol we aren’t way ahead of WC in anything , when their stars retire they will find a way they always do we ****ed up there’s nothing wrong with accepting that. its whether or not the people that run our club have and are able to fix it down the track.

We are at nearly polar opposites of progression with our two sides.

They are at the replacing superstars phase, we are at the replacements filling the shoes phase - there is a significant gap between them.

Do you really think we are way ahead of them. Thats the delusional talk that keeps the club down.WC have another cup in the cabinet and another possible this season since our short time in the sun. We have nothing but our tears after 013.
The Rioli story was all over the media, WC didn't panic, they know the media cycle is short lived.
Wait it out and it goes away. It's gone away apart from a few rabid Freo fans. Freo react through fear of the media.

Were there reporters outside Ryan's home when he crashed his car, or beat her up, or beat her up?

Hawks weren't spared.
Sydney (even without all their concessions) still fell to the bottom 4 for two years.

West Coast aren't magic. They have largely the same rules and constraints as everyone else. They have an old list and will get theirs when the time comes. They don't have replacements for the following players (all 28+ this year):

Shuey
Yeo
Kennedy (I don't think Allen is in his league)
Hurn
Gov
NicNat
Gaff
Sheppard

They are not replacing those blokes with picks in the late teens and twenties. That is a LOT of talent to replace.

We say that WC are falling of the cliff every 5 years or so. They are never down for long.
Why we under estimate their young talent is beyond me.

You obviously didn't watch the WC v Richmond game.

Kennedy is the one that breaks the camels back IMO. As ridiculous as it sounds, he actually doesnt get enough credit as probably the best KPF behind Franklin of the last 15-20 years. It shows every time he is out, their game goes to shit because their midfield is poo and doesnt have Kennedy leading the forwardline and bailing them out.

They'll meander around the 8 for another few years but wont really get close to another flag for a while

It's painful how good he is. I can remember games where we limit him to 4 kicks and he still has 3 goals.

Super smart, great body work and leading patterns, very good hands and highly efficient kick. Outstanding player. He's also somewhat likable for a WC player.

The only potential stars in the 'youngsters' they have is Allen and Barass. The rest are between solid B grade players and role players. Like every time they win a flag or compete for a few years, it will be another 8+ years before they are actually a premiership threat

Agreed, he is the perfect KPF for the modern game, even applies half decent pressure for a KPF

West coast made like bandits out of one stupid draft decision by St Kilda to take Ball over Judd. They got the best of Judd, then smashed the trading him out to get Kennedy who's given them a decade plus of an elite forward line.
That, and Melbourne take Watts over NicNat. They should send the draft team of the saints and demon's from those periods a Christmas hamper each year.

If every club sent St Kilda a hamper for missing out on generational players, Ratten would be the size of Dew. Simply astounding how St Kilda have had the pick before a generational talent on so many occasions

Buddy by some way, but absolutely Kennedy is 2nd of the kpf's over the last 20 years.
Personally Lockett is the best I've seen.
He didn't miss and from all angles, and he played in a pretty poor Saints outfit.
Dunstall obvs too, but he played in a very, very good team

I remember when we used to be dominant over the WC, irrespective of their ladder position (2006-2015), I wondered why that was at the time and the answer I came up with was Pav & McPharlin. Elite KPPs just make such a difference. I was never worried about the immediate years following 2013, but the serious trouble was always further along around 2016, when Pav & McPharlin would either be gone or lost enough of their eliteness...unless the young talls like Smith, Apeness, Taberner etc really hit their straps. Always figured it would take a suite of 4 or so to replace those two. (not a hindsight hero, actually said this exact thing to someone pre the 2014 season).

Elite KPPs not only bring what they bring, but also have an impact on those around them allowing them to play with more confidence. Reward for effort. Kennedy goes and they lose a lot. There's just more drag, which can have an exponential effect and other players all of a sudden don't look so good.

Lives in freo...what a shame.

We keep underestimating WC,
I,'ve said the same thing a about WC to my family members who support WC so many times and every time I eat crow.
I had to come to the conclusion that they do everything better than us.
I,'ve gone from being the most rusted on and always supporting the clubs decisions to realising they have been stuffing up the playing list from day one . From Peter Bell, to James Clement to Hogan and ending up with Naughton.
I was labelled a club sycophant on here because of my excusing the clubs mistakes
To keep defending the club is getting us nowhere.

Hate to say that I agree. He also stands up in clutch moments & I do like his aggression at the contest without being aggressive elsewhere.

Jye Amiss has very similar traits to what you mentioned but without the aggression. Doesn’t get a heap of stats, but kicks well & does all his damage inside 50.

I dont think I'm underestimating them, just going off their history, which is impressive none the less. They list manage extremely well and are arguably the best run team in the competition. Still dont think they'll actually be contending for another 8ish years which is consistent with their history. This is more impressive then it sounds because no other team is that consistently refreshing their list and being competitive aside from maybe Hawthorn, but Hawks time down the bottom has come, like it comes for every team.

While I'm more positive than you, I'm still negative about things. I'm far from sold on Bell, I'm not a fan of the board and I rate our trading as the worst in the comp. Still, I feel like I can see things heading in a really strong direction, it's just in the AFL, list turnovers take longer than we like to think which is very frustrating, but for teams teetering on the 8, it can change really fast once that core group of young players hit 25+, see Melbourne, WB, Richmond, Brisbane.

Do I think we are perfect? Far from it but I think we are on the right track hitting the draft repeatedly, AND, importantly, not fluffing picks like some other rebuilding clubs of the last 5+ years

I'm challenging you to pick the next group....And if you think Liam Ryan would still be in the AFL after what he has done if he wasn't wearing blue and yellow - you're out of your mind.

I've actually posted a work up of all the non WA players we have drafted replaced with the next WA player taken... it didn't go so well for the buy local crew.

Your list was a crock of shit

You had us with a pick 3 moving down to a pick 15* without the 2 or 3 extra picks included

* for example
