If we had pick 1 and 2, and were going to place a bid on JUH, wouldn't it be better strategically to place the bid at pick 1. It makes no difference to who we end up with, but it send the Dogs into a deeper points deficit next season?

We don't know where they end up next year, but a few more teams in the middle with a points deficit could end up pretty handy for us in next years draft. Especially if we somehow manage to jag another 2021 1st out of someone (which IMO should be a major trade week goal this year). Might end up being the difference in getting the player(s) that we want!

Which is why i'd also be looking to send Sydney and Port into as deep a points deficit as we can manage as well. Cause F**k those guys!

We have history here.

Kinda like how our pick swap with Freo last year contributed to their point deficit this year and our GWS pick moving up a spot.

I dont believe Pick 4 would be equivalent to 9 and 20 from a Swans perspective.

North would do that trade though.

Really for me it comes down to the permutations of taking 2 players ONLY out of Hollands, Thilthorpe, Phillips and McDonald.

I dont expect a slider from those four to make it to our Pick 8. Frustrating.

Yeah, probably true.

I think Sydney will have a deal in place with Geelong to trade down to 11 and 15, IF we do put a bid in. If there's no bid on Campbell, they'll just roll on through the draft.

You think so?, I see Phillips as just about the "safest" pick in the 1st round. He's going to be a very good player almost for certain IMO, just don't think he's the best fit for us....and one of the bigger flight risks probably. Surely one of the Victorian club won't let him slip too far?
I see phillips as the sloane replacement. if we pick him that is. he's pretty quick too.

Its just good old fashioned aggressive business IMO. If you have an opportunity to push another team back in the draft to improve your hand you should take it!

As it stands we have the potential to push 3 teams back in this draft and the next (as long as we are willing to land JUH, Campbell and Jones earlier then currently mocked).

"Can't see Brad Crouch going for much higher than a late first round draft pick"

wow twomey. just wow. any respect I had for you is now gone.

He's about as Vic biased as you get. He's also the one who said we shouldn't bid on JUH as we lose the marketing potential of a #1 pick, and then the player we take at 2 would feel sad because we thought he was second best.

Honestly, if Brad wants to stay at the crows that bad, He will accept a 3 year deal with a trigger for a fourth.

Like if all is true with what he is saying, He obviously wants to be there not really sure we should push him out we still have an extremely strong draft hand.

Campaigner Cal Twomey. Saw his mate Mitch Cleary get whacked by the AFL for not towing the company line earlier in the year... Looks like he's pretty keen to not follow suit and be a good little zero integrity journo that AFL house have come to expect!

so... Nothing new in any of that really..

we’ve told Brad and his manager “test the market.. see what comes up”... and if its a big offer that pretty much guarantees pick 2 then you’re probably better of taking it.. if there isnt a big offer we’ll talk about it then.

i think in the end if the big enough offer doesnt come the club will give him a bit more (say $700k a year over 3/4) than what he’s on now.. and keep him..

he even said on AA last night that he’s willing to stay at the crows for “unders”..

and why wouldnt he... he might get $50k more a year in Victoria but thats not really worth uprooting his and his missuses lives and dragging themselves to live in a shithole like melbourne/victoria over..

On top of that.. the extra $50 a year would just get gobbled up and spent on the higher cost of living in Melbourne/victoria over Adelaide..

Better of taking a little less and staying in Adelaide.

guess it might also come down to years offered but hard to see the crows not come to the party with 4 years.. he might want 5 but 4 years and an option for a 5th from the crows could be just as good.

Yep, its seems pretty clear that he's been given an agenda by the higher ups. And he's determined to push it!

2020 AFL Draft tier list and the 28 prospects I view as future best 22 players." on YouTube

Fairly good analysis. Has Phillips at 3 and Hollands at 4 but i think he should have it the other way around. He really rates McDonald, Hollands, Phillips and Perkins. Also really rates Tom Powell.

why do you think he is wrong?

he's one a B&F that fine

but would you be offering a much more for him ?

can someone explain to me why we need a tall forward? if TT is there at pick 9 i would take him but that’s it. looking like we will not have pick 2 after vfl clubs lobbying so pick 1 will need to be hollands because that’s what we actually don’t have.

You can never have too many talented tall forwards. It's the best possible problem to have. Other clubs want them and will pay big to get them. You want talented mids? Draft gun tall forwards then trade surplus for your star mids. Footy economics 101.

AFL's draft "Expert" Kevin Sheehan also saying on SEN we shouldn't bid at 1 as well because of the marketing and $10k bonus...'you wouldn't want to give away your pick 1'. Apparently a 'lovely looping left foot kick too'.

I know people will criticize him, but Twomey isn't that far off.

What do people actually think is Brad's value on the open market as an uncontracted midfielder that's never made All Australian selection or even the squad of 40?

I think it's probably no more than pick 10. Certainly not pick 2 and definitely not two firsts.

Obv its not pick 2... but we finished bottom so that's the bonus we get... hes worth a 1st round compo... If we won the flag... that would be pick 19 and no one would complain. You wouldn't see sides going hes worth a 2nd round compo 37.....

Its the exact same logic

I don't think he's worth a first round compensation pick personally because I don't see him as a player worthy of a top 5% contract.

The only reason he'd get that is a club paying overs to get him without spending draft picks
