THE CHANGES
Traditional playing positions at centre bounces

  • Clubs must have six players inside both 50m arcs, with one player inside the goalsquare.
  • Four midfield players must start inside the centre square with the two wingmen stationed along the wing.
Kick-ins

  • At kick-ins, a player will no longer need to kick to himself to play on from the goalsquare.
  • Following a behind, the man on the mark will be brought out to 10m from the top of the goalsquare, rather than the existing five metres.
Marks and free kicks in defence

  • When defenders mark or receive a free kick within nine metres of their own goal, the man on the mark will be brought in line with the top of the goalsquare.
Runners and water carriers

  • Team runners may only enter the playing surface after a goal has been kicked and must exit before play restarts.
  • Water carriers are not permitted to enter the playing surface during live play.
Umpire contact

  • Players will be prohibited from setting up behind the umpire at centre bounces.
50m penalties

  • The player with the ball:
  • Must be allowed to advance the mark by 50m without the infringing player delaying the game.
  • Will be able to play on while the 50m penalty is being measured out.
Kicking for goal after the siren

  • A player who has been awarded a mark or free kick once play has ended:
  • Will now be able to kick across their body using a snap or check-side kick
  • BUT must kick the ball directly in line with the man on the mark and the goal.
Marking contests

  • The 'hands in the back’ rule interpretation has been repealed so a player can now:
  • Place his hands on the back of his opponent to protect his position in a marking contest
  • PROVIDED he does not push his opponent in the back.
Ruck contests: prior opportunity

  • A ruckman who takes direct possession of the ball from a bounce, throw-up or boundary throw-in will no longer be regarded as having had prior opportunity.
  • Where there is uncertainty over who is the designated ruckman, the ruckman for each team will still be required to nominate to the field umpire.

  • No ****ing idea.

The kick in play on rule (without kicking to yourself) will be an absolute disaster - will be gone by round 3.
Guys are just going to take off without anyone knowing what's going on.
They will just pick up ball as instantly take off as soon as umpire has signalled the point.
They have got their basketball wish the pricks.

Also, what happens if players don't get back to after goal positions in time? Free kick or wait?
What if full forward AND opposition full back both don't get to the goal square?

Madness.

The no prior for ruckman out of the ruck will be a good time-waster late in games. Ruckman can just take the ball out of the ruck and get tackled - another ballup. Can do it all day long.

And how many frees will be given away by waterboys and runners. Just no need to have that rule.

Thats the worst change for mine. Why the **** are they being softer on HTB? It only creates congestion when you refuse to penalize players for it.

Well R.I.P. Australian Rules Football was a good sport while it lasted:'(
Ruckman can take the ball out of the ruck again, hands in the back is gone.

Seems like they've given a bit of the game back.

"We have listened to our fans, players, coaches, umpires and clubs." Hocking said.

...and ignorned everything they said.

At least the 18m goal square didn't come in!

Was just about to quote exactly the same thing. Such an absolute joke, completely out of touch as usual

First bolded is stupid. Of course they will, they all know the rules and will be expecting them to play on. What are you on about?

Second bolded. So what, opens up the game and helps get out of the press, how is this a bad thing?

First player to kick for goal after the siren around the body and get called for playing on?

or:

First player to clearly play on when kicking around the body after the siren and get away with it?

more umpire interpretation - can only be good for the game......
I fail to see how this was even an issue, or a "thing". Cocksmacks. No idea. Not necessary. ******g with it for the sake of it,.

The nominating a ruckman is still a load of crap.

No need to nominate, 1 for each team goes up no matter who it is, if an extra goes up from one team , it's a free kick, it is that damn simple, Iit will quicken the game if the ump just throws it straight up rather than waiting for the ruck man to arrive.

maybe force them to touch the ball on the ground (as in like the replacement bounce)?
