List Mgmt. 2018 St Kilda Trade Thread Part 4

1) Wouldn't have been 28 on draft night, would've been closer to 33 after all the bids for academy/Father-Son kids. And the picks that would have been taken up by bids are between what is now 28 and what is now 36/46. So really closer to 33 for 38 and 48. Tick.

2) After the top 20 it's an even talent pool for the next 2 rounds.

3) Have lots of list spots, would rather not offer a 2 year contract to a kid who is a pick 70+.

Good trade, but I don't think we're done. GWS will enquire about our pick 4 along with SA clubs.

What have GWS got that we'd want, other than Shiel?

What does it matter if pick 28 is actually Pick 33? It’s not a bonus for us or even a reason to suggest that was the reason why we traded as it would push the whole order back.

I would suggest this move gives us flexibility to make another move with one of the Adelaide clubs and their multiple picks aswell as allowing us to meet our draft requirements if we don’t.

I’m sure it’s be mentioned by many but it pretty obvious why we downgraded 1 pick for 2. If we do swap 4 the other club will want our next pick which leaves us with basically 2 picks if we got 2 picks for 4 and 28. Now we give them 4 and 34 but still have a pick in the 40’s. Very smart move
Glad you have explained this because i was about to blow a fuse.
Hopefully this is correct or Lethers has something up his sleeve.

Yeah let's on jump the bloke that's feeling as underwhelmed as i am
and i suspect plenty of saints people!

Not over yet i know...Hoping we can pull something out of the bag!
But if this is us being aggressive, then hate to see us when we are being quiet!

Not impressed!

This off season has seen the most quality players moving around and we’ve got a warchest apparently . Can only muster a cooked Hannebery while all these other clubs are building on their sides from last year which were already ahead of us . We are ******* stuffed again next year just you watch .
Why wouldn’t I be pissed off

You need to realise the fact that if hanners gets back (and yes it is an if) to his best that’s our A grader, the campaigner is only 27 ffs.

On the face of it that pick swap seems stupid to me, but I'll reserve judgment until 8.30

Once final picks are taken both of those picks will move up the order a fair few spots. Good trade, strengthens our hand and gives Libba a chance to start putting a genuine stamp on our list.

We threw the most amount of coin out of everyone to land Shiel - how aggressive did you want us to be? He knocked us back.
This "aggressive" narrative is a bit weary. We traded out a much maligned ruckman and got Hanners and Kent for chips. Still have 4 in a superdraft.

Later picks come in though Stav after academy bidding.

Regardless of what happens with 4, I would be taking 36 and 46 to the draft. (Unless they are going to get a player with one of them)

I inadvertantly posted this on thhe Nominal AFL Draft Order thread, thinking I was on here>

Tomorrow i believe:
May and Kade Kolodjashnij end up at the dees, Neale ends up at lions as does adams, hogan ends up at freo, Shiel obviously gets to essendon, Wingard gets to hawthorn, beams gets to the pies, Jack Hombsch ends up at GC with pick 6, Port end up with pick 5 and burton
Boom shakalaka

Clark shouldn't be used as a half back flanker at all. He should be part of the midfield rotations or play wing/half forward. I personally rate White over McKenzie and Savage but he can't get a game. Coffield is a half back but hopefully he can progress into the midfield with time. Rice is a replacement for geary...

My ideal backline would be:
FB Geary Austin White
HB Roberton Carlisle Webster

Coffield/Mckenzie/Savage/Rice/Brown should be the only players played in the backline.

Clark/Newnes etc if they cant make it further up the ground should be picked pretty simple really. Last season was a joke with some many players played out of position it wasnt funny.

Wings include Sinclair/Newnes/Phillips/Langlands and Acres maybe??

Half forwards include
Billings/Gresham/Kent/Acres

Small forwards include
Long/Lonie

Everyone else is key position and mids from the top of my head...

Play the players were they are best suited and not just to fit him like last year. If he isn't good enough then drop him. Hated seeing Geary butcher the ball 30 times when played in the middle. If he can't make it as a BP then he should be at sandy.
Clark was a half back flanker as much as he was a mid in the under 18's so that sounds like to right place to play him when he's not on the ball.

I don't think he's ready to spend a lot of time on ball yet unless he has a huge off season but even if he does he'll need to rotate somewhere.

I thought pick 28 wluld have actually gone forward due to multiple picks being used on one academy pick?
