Rockliff an Hanley are on the back page cover of the courier mail. Gotta be the first time in a long time I have seen something lions related on the back page

Cut it out, frame it and place it carefully into a time capsule...

SizeMatters

Not a professional photographer by any stretch, so some of the photos rare a bit amateur-ish, but here's your request. Rest will be coming over the afternoon. Michael Close's legs. He really impressed everyone today, consistently being at the front for every lap.

*Don't mind the date, my camera absolutely hated my date and time settings. Rest of the photos as well as a summary coming shortly.

No Clarke-esque transformations that I could spot this year.

Freeman's bulked up quite a bit, especially around the shoulders. He's still got a bit of the baby giraffe about him, and he's not going to be winning any time trials any time soon (though he was putting in the hard yards today)...but he's going to be a big unit.

Close has bulked up a bit, but not massively.

Archie's looking bigger all over.

Paine in the running drills was the surprise packet for me. He was running laps (and keeping up) with the 'elite' group - Paps, Close, ZOB & then Mayes joined in.

Looks like Squizzy's still recuperating from his clean-up op.

Jed and Harwood were the only senior players there today that I can recall.

Dawson was the only newbie there.

Excellent thanks for the photo Rubix! Good to see some bulk starting to develop on his legs which was a concern for me personally. Still needs to add some mass around his quads and core to help him anchor in marking contests 1v1. Probably will never be the power forward a la Brown but looks like he is in top shape. Mr Professional looks set to build on a somewhat impressive last season just needs some mongrel in the contest.

There you go guys. Full album.

Lions Training 14/11/2014

Morning started off with a few repeat sprints, most of the guys looked sharp, Robbo looks in top nick, he has really come back in good shape.

After that, they split up into teams of 2 that rotated with other guys who would throw the ball down, the 2 guys push and shove, one of them picks it up and dish it off. This happened for a good 20-30 minutes. Blacky was managing this drill and looked to have a better idea of what to do compared to last year.

Then 4 groups were formed, and kicking drills. They rotated around the ground, Gary O'Donnell was managing this, was really loud as well, and most of them hit targets comfortably. Lester still struggled with basic kicks :(. Pretty sure I saw Cutler and Robbo swear at each other after a missed lead or something, good to see the young guys fired up.

After this, just a few laps around the ground. Really surprised to see Paine in the front group with the elite runners like Close, Paparone and Zac O'Brien. He is shaping up to have a big pre-season. In terms of size, Close seems to have bulked up, and McStay looks fitter too.

Aish was just solid all session without being flashy, did the laps in good time, got through the kicking and handball drills with flying colours.

Freeman has bulked up as well, but lagged behind in the time trials. Squizzy Taylor was off to the side doing basic kicking and handball drills, would assume he's being managed.

Harwood and Mayes came over after the session to talk to the fans and mingle with the sponsors, so thought that was pretty nice of them. Lester and Adcock as well.

On the way to the car, got hold of Darcy Gardiner and told him to keep going at it on the field next year and the fans loved his aggression. He replied with "I always do." He reckons Merrett would be playing in defence next year unless we have no forwards, really excited to have Beams and Christensen on board and reckons that will take a lot of pressure off the defence. Jokingly asked him about Carlisle and how he'd feel if he were to join the Lions next year and he said "That'd be a pretty fun reunion, he's a good player."

God I love last year's draft class. Can't wait to head along to the next one with the full group.

If Archie can actually play, he's going to be imposing.
Obviously very early days, but seems to have improved his kicking. Still a long way off aerobically. Consistently in the last few runners. IMO he's tracking pretty well though. Give him another year or, more likely, two.

The Paine stuff is interesting. As a third tall forward type, he's arguably got the most competition for a spot with any number of guys capable of playing that role in different ways. On the other hand, no-one owns the role so there is a vacancy to be filled.
