not a bad bloke at 187 cm. Mainly plays as a back pocket or half back flank when he played....

Occasionally played at CHB in 2020 when we had our other tall defenders that stood at 190 cm or taller injured.

I wont forget that 2020 season. Sort of glad it was only 17 games. Joel Hamling who is 195 cm and Alex Pearce who is 198 cm didnt play one minute of the 2020 season. Griffin Logue played the 1st 4 or 5 games and didnt play another game in 2020. he was injured too.

So.... Brennan Cox who is 194 cm and 90 kg, played every dockers game in 2020 as the Full back in the goal square. While guys like Taylin Duman and Tobe Watson who both stood at 190 cm and Luke Ryan and Ethan Hughes who both stand at 187 cm, rotated at centre half back.
And we still had a top 5 defence somehow

If I were to do a best 22 of this draft:

Jake Lever - Harris Andrews - Brayden Maynard
Bailey Dale - Darcy Moore - Adam Saad
Ed Langdon - Touk Miller - Angus Brayshaw
Jordan De Goey - Jeremy Finlayson - Kyle Langford
Isaac Heeney - Peter Wright - Daniel Butler
Reilly O'Brien - Christian Petracca - Jack Steele
Caleb Daniel - Jack Sinclair - Jayden Short - Toby McLean

That's a very good effort.

I'd probably have any one of Kane Lambert, Liam Duggan, or Alex Neal-Bullen ahead of Toby McLean, but that's splitting hairs.

Then there's Mason Cox and Lachie Weller.

McLean had good years, but they seem an eternity ago.

Ripping side that

Not sure if you could find a better one. That’s as good as it gets from a draft class.
Reckon the forward line lets it down compared to some of the other ones.

Multiple AAs for talls and smalls in the backline. Most of these guys are right in their prime so will probably add a few more as well.

Also Moore and Andrews are club captains as well

Everyone in the back line is an All Australian - plus Sinclair and Daniel - All Australian defenders on the bench. No other draft could match this quailty of defenders.

I would take Moore and Andrew’s over Miller. Brayshaw higher - has to be well in front of Wright who has had 1 good year in 9 years. Dale was an AA and another that should be higher.

Dale is tough to rank as he was lost for his first 6 years. Agree he is probably ahead of Brayshaw, Wright and possibly Short for his last three seasons.

My thoughts:

Feel like there’s a huge gap between 27 and 28.

Based on his last 30-40 games Sinclair is clearly 7th for me. Obviously his early career is dragging him down a little.

Would shift Langdon to the bottom of the 12-18 group.

Would bring in Castagna and McKenna behind ANB at 27/28 (you skipped 19). Then push out one of Laverde, McGovern or Newman to make 30.

Players not mentioned who are roughly equal to the Laverde Newman McGovern crew are; Soldo, Pittonet, McGovern and Frampton. Could see Frampton pushing up the list given the value he provides as a utility KP

Remember how this was supposedly a weak draft? Could have genuinely 16 AA players from it in three weeks time

16?

I can count 9 that already have AA's (Trac, Miller, Moore, Andrews, Steele, Lever, Saad, Heeney & Daniel)

Sinclair will be AA in a few weeks, so that is 10

Who are the 6 that are going to make it this year? or are you counting squad guys too? or have I missed a few?

Maynard and Sinclair made it last year. Bailey Dale the year before. I thought Short and De Goey had made it, and got the wrong Brayshaw. Regardless, De Goey and Langford could make it this year (both fringe, De Goey due to missing games, Langford due to being the second best small/medium forward and unclear on how many forwards theynpick).

Yeah fair. Forgot about Dale and Maynard

Brayshaw and DJG have been in the squad though, so close enough. Neither should make the team this year

Langford is a good shout for this year

Great draft. Langford really challenging top 10 here maybe higher? I think. Heeney putting moves on for top although he needs at least 3-4 years at his current level
I think Petracca pretty much has top spot locked away for this draft, regardless of how the rest of these players' careers pan out. He's played at a very high level pretty much ever since he came into the competition. He won a Norm Smith with a performance that left absolutely no doubt who the best player on the ground was that day. And while the stakes weren't as high on Thursday night as a grand final, it was an insanely good performance.

The rest of the players near the top of the list will move up and down, according to whether you value more their best or their consistency. And depending of their output for the rest of their careers. But it will be close to impossible to catch Petracca.

Yeah you're right, that's fair.
