A player has served ten or more seasons of AFL football at one club, has already come out of contract once in the period after serving his first eight or more seasons at his club, and is now out of contract. (Unrestricted free agent)
The player is eligible to field offers from all rival clubs.
If he wishes to change clubs, the player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.
His club does NOT have the right to match the presented offer, and the player can move AUTOMATICALLY to the new club of his choice.
After 14 seasons Paul Chapman is an UNRESTRICTED free agent.
As Geelong has also delisted him, he is a delisted free agent and therefore can go to whatever club he wants regardless of the amount of money the clubs are offering.
If he wants to come to Carlton, there is nothing stopping him from coming to Carlton. GWS might come along and say hey... we will give you 400k, but we are only offering a 1 year contract with an option of a second based on performance and Carlton come along and offer him 2 years straight for 250k with a coaching role when he finally does pull the pin and we also tell him that he can do his coaching certificates while he is at the club and we will pick up the tab for it. While it sounds like GWS are offering a lot, they are only offering him 1 year. If he wants 2 years and he wants to go into coaching, Carltons offer is much more appealing to him long term.
